Actor Choi Min-sik made these remarks about his chemistry with Han So-hee at the production briefing for the film “The Intern,” held on the 24th at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul.
“The Intern” depicts office life that transcends both generations and job titles, beginning when “Ki-ho” (Choi Min-sik), a silver-haired intern with 37 years of experience, joins the company of “Seon-woo” (Han So-hee), who has rapidly risen as a dark horse in the fashion industry just three years after launching her brand.
Choi Min-sik drew laughter when he said of Han So-hee, “When I asked who had been cast, they told me it was Han So-hee. I said, ‘That Han So-hee?’” He then joked, “I thought to myself, ‘I’d better stay on my toes.’”
Han So-hee, who blushed at Choi Min-sik’s high praise, spoke about working with him: “To be completely honest, it was an opportunity I doubt I’ll ever have again in my life.” She added, “I thought, ‘Is this really the Choi Min-sik I know?’ I approached it with the mindset that I had to throw myself into it headfirst, no matter what.”
Choi Min-sik then added, “I was very satisfied and also surprised. On one hand, I was proud of her,” creating a heartwarming moment.

“The Intern” is a Korean remake of the 2015 film of the same name, starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. Choi Min-sik plays Ki-ho, a veteran intern in the film. Han So-hee portrays Seon-woo, a third-year rookie CEO who knows nothing but work.
Why did he choose *The Intern*? Choi Min-sik began by saying, “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel any pressure.” He explained, “The original film was so excellent, and the actors delivered outstanding performances. I thought to myself, ‘Why am I taking on this project—as if I’m going to enjoy some great fame or fortune from it?’”
He continued, “Don’t good plays and dramas often reinterpret works based on original sources? I thought it would have a unique flavor if we expressed the joys and sorrows of Koreans, their unity, and generational conflicts through our own sensibilities, using a Korean-style setting.”
Han So-hee replied, “When I heard that Senior Choi Min-sik was playing the role of Ki-ho, I really wanted to be a part of it,” adding, “After several meetings with the director, I became confident that the character I was building could be portrayed in a multifaceted way.”
The hobby of the character Seon-woo, played by Han So-hee, is “singing while working late.” Choi Min-sik praised Han So-hee’s singing skills, joking, “I thought Ms. Jo Su-mi was there,” and showed off his wit. He also added, “She’s a great dancer, too. I thought Madonna had arrived,” drawing laughter.
In response, Han So-hee retorted, “You dance like Michael Jackson, too,” showcasing their on-screen chemistry. Choi Min-sik remarked, “It was a cheerful and fun set. I’m sorry if this sounds like a cliché, but we clicked instantly,” adding, “It was a set where we overcame physical exhaustion.”

“The Intern,” directed by Kim Do-young—who previously helmed “If We”—is a delightful K-office ensemble film that resonates with Korean audiences. Director Kim said, “Since the original was such a beloved film, remaking it wasn’t easy, but I focused on bringing out the actors’ charm,” adding, “I tried to harmoniously blend a perspective that has changed from 10 years ago with a distinctly Korean sensibility.”
Finally, Choi Min-sik said, “You’re welcome to criticize me for ‘ruining’ my all-time favorite movie,” adding, “But I want to say this: I put my heart and soul into it, and I made it with the sole intention of ‘showing what we’re capable of.’ I hope you enjoy a warm autumn with *The Intern*.”
The film opens on the 16th of next month.
