[Edaily Starin KIM HYUNSIK Reporter] An old underground passageway in downtown Seoul has been transformed into an exhibition space commemorating the 20-year journey of the group Big Bang (G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung). This refers to Big Bang’s 20th-anniversary media exhibition “COSMOS,” which opened on the 24th at “K-Culture Station—Dududu Seoul” in Jung-gu, Seoul. The space is filled with a variety of exhibits spanning Big Bang’s past and present, as well as interactive content that incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and holograms. It interprets the music, narratives, and memories Big Bang has built with their fans over the past 20 years through the keyword “COSMOS”—a cosmic concept meaning “everything that exists in the past and present and will exist in the future.” The “K-Culture Station,” where the exhibition is being held, is a multi-purpose cultural space created by renovating a long-unused underground area between City Hall Station and Euljiro 1-ga Station; it spans approximately 335 meters in length and covers an area of about 1,000 pyeong. This space has existed beneath downtown Seoul for about 40 years, closed to the public since its creation during the construction of Subway Line 2 in 1983. It has reopened as part of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s initiative to utilize unused underground spaces, with “Cosmos” serving as its first project. “Welcome to the Big Bang 20th Anniversary Exhibition. It’s already been 20 years—time really flies. Let’s stay together for a long time!” (G-Dragon) “Big Bang is able to celebrate its 20th anniversary thanks to the unwavering love and support of our V.I.P.s (fan club name). Please take a moment to reminisce about your happy memories.” (Taeyang) “I’m happy to be creating yet another memory with you all.” (Daesung) Next to the turnstiles at Exit 1-1 of Euljiro 1-ga Station, leading to the exhibition hall, several monitors have been set up. Each monitor plays footage of BIGBANG’s past performances, setting the mood before visitors begin their tour. At the entrance, a large screen displaying current photos of G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung welcomes visitors. Along with images of the three members on screen, welcome messages addressed to the fans visiting the exhibition are displayed one after another. The exhibition is organized into 11 spaces. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the first space, “COSMOS BEGINS.” An immersive laser show and laser projections of constellations illuminate the dark space. The early part of the exhibition focuses on retracing the past 20 years of BIGBANG’s journey. In “Cosmic Signal,” visitors can walk along a path guided by BIGBANG’s music and lyrics while viewing their signature songs displayed on a media facade. The following space, “Fragments,” features previously unreleased photos chronicling BIGBANG’s 20-year history, projected via beam projectors. After passing through these historical records, visitors encounter the present-day Big Bang. “Cosmic Echo” is a space where visitors can enjoy videos that bring Big Bang’s messages and music to life using artificial intelligence (AI). In “Parallax,” photos of G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung—newly shot specifically for this exhibition—are unveiled for the first time. The exhibition utilizes lenticular technology, which displays different images depending on the viewer’s perspective. A diverse array of images—ranging from the three members sitting side by side on a sofa to shots highlighting their individual personalities—filled the large screen. In “Constellation,” which symbolically interprets the 20-year journey of BIGBANG and their fandom, V.I.P., visitors can view a massive “Bang Bong” (official light stick) sculpture created to commemorate the 20th anniversary, as well as a collection of all past Bang Bong models, all in one place. Here, VR content created using BIGBANG’s new song “BiiiG” is unveiled exclusively. When you put on a VR headset, it feels as though G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung are performing their new song right in front of you. You can experience the immersive sensation of watching the three members’ performance as if you were sitting in the front row of an actual concert venue. “COSMOS OF US” is a space where fans themselves become part of the exhibition. When visitors upload their photos taken with BIGBANG to the exhibition hall, they are displayed on the wall screens alongside photos from other visitors. In the following section, “Cosmic Stage,” visitors can encounter holographic representations of G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung. The members, rendered on screens at nearly life-size, move their bodies and gesture as they interact with the audience. At “Pieces of Cosmos,” visitors can find a variety of merchandise featuring the “Cosmos” logo, including T-shirts, hoodies, hats, bags, and accessories. The final space, “Draw Our Cosmos,” is an interactive message wall completed by messages left directly by VIPs. The exhibition journey, which began by looking back on BIGBANG’s past 20 years, concludes with a promise of the future to be created together with fans. BIGBANG debuted in 2006 and established themselves as a leading K-pop group by releasing numerous hit songs such as “Lie,” “Last Farewell,” “Day by Day,” “Red Sunset,” “Fantastic Baby,” and “Bang Bang Bang.” They released their new song “Big” on the 19th and kicked off their 20th-anniversary world tour at the Main Stadium of the Goyang Sports Complex from the 21st to the 23rd. The media exhibition “Cosmos” operates on a reservation-only basis. It runs 12 sessions daily from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and tickets can be reserved through Naver Reservation.
