According to their agency, Big Hit Music, on the 24th, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker designated the 27th and 28th (local time), when BTS will perform their “ARIRANG” world tour at Soldier Field in Chicago, as “BTS Day in Illinois.”
In its official proclamation for “BTS Day,” the State of Illinois recognized that BTS has raised awareness about mental health and promoted the values of self-love and generosity. It also highlighted how BTS’s message has inspired millions of fans worldwide to engage in community service and charitable giving.
The state also expressed hope that these concerts would revitalize the local economy and elevate Illinois’ cultural and artistic standing, urging residents to join in celebrating the unifying power of music and culture.
This is not the first time a local government has organized an official welcome event for BTS. Toronto, Canada, designated the 22nd and 23rd as “BTS Weekend” to coincide with their visit and temporarily renamed a section of a road “BTS Boulevard.” Wes Moore, Governor of Maryland, released a welcome video with Korean subtitles ahead of their concert in Baltimore. El Paso County, Texas, declared the concert period “El Paso BTS Weekend” and presented the group with the “Estimado Amigo” award.
In addition, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum met with BTS in person and presented them with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the government. French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife attended the BTS concert in person at the Stade de France in Paris.
