[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] RS Automation Co., Ltd.(140670), a company specializing in robot motion and energy control, announced on the 25th that it will undertake a government-funded project worth approximately 5.3 billion won to develop a core physical AI drive and control platform.

RS Automation Co., Ltd. has been selected for the “Development of Full-Stack Integrated Platform Technology for Core Drive and Control of Next-Generation AI Robots Based on Physical AI” project, part of the 2026 Robot Industry Core Technology Development Program promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

RS Automation Co., Ltd. will lead the project, with AI specialist Sage participating as a partner. The total R&D budget is 5.373 billion won, of which government funding will amount to approximately 3.6 billion won. The R&D period will span 45 months, from 2026 to 2029.

The core objective of this project is to develop a platform that combines AI with existing motion control technology for industrial robots to optimize robot movement and utilize control data generated during actual operation for AI training.

Through this project, RS Automation Co., Ltd. will develop: △ multi-axis servo management based on AI auto-tuning; △ an intelligent edge controller (iMEC) capable of high-speed, real-time multi-axis synchronous control; △ a control data pipeline for AI training; and △ a smart integrated actuator (SIA).

The plan is to integrate these components—controllers, servo drives, actuators, and AI data technology—to build a drive and control platform that can be applied to various AI robots, such as humanoids and collaborative robots.

RS Automation Co., Ltd. aims to raise the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of the relevant technologies—currently at TRL 5—to TRL 8 by the end of the project and increase the localization rate of core drive and control technologies to 90%.
