Based on the short manga of the same name by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of the “Chainsaw Man” manga series, this live-action film is drawing attention as the first live-action adaptation of a work by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Director Hirokazu Kore-eda, who won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2018 for the film “Shoplifters,” served as director, screenwriter, and editor. The film has been officially invited to the competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, generating anticipation among audiences worldwide even before its release. The poster, featuring young Fujino (Furi Nanase) and young Kyomoto (Roka Okada)—whose lives are connected by their shared dream of becoming manga artists—naturally evokes the innocent moments of the two friends, shining as brightly as the hot summer sun. Alongside this, another poster featuring Fujino (Natsuki Deguchi) and Kyomoto (Aju Makita) as they continue to pursue their dreams even as time passes showcases their unwavering friendship and youth, which endures even in the chill of the season. The tagline, “We became ‘us’ by drawing together,” foreshadows the beautiful moments the two will create together and piques curiosity about the story they will unfold. Director Hirokazu Kore-eda will attend the 51st Toronto International Film Festival. Notably, on the 14th of next month (local time), he will participate in a discussion with Director Yeon Sang-ho as part of the festival’s official industry program, “TIFF Summit: Dialogues.”
