[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] The extended cut of Director Park Chan-wook’s film *There’s Nothing We Can Do* will premiere in theaters.

The 22nd Jecheon International Music & Film Festival (JIMFF) announced on the 25th, “Music directors Jo Young-wook, Kim Tae-sung, Kim Jun-seok, Kim Sa-wol, Jeong Yong-jin, and Lee Su-bin will visit Jecheon in person to meet with audiences,” and “In particular, music director Jo Young-wook will participate in a Q&A session with director Park Chan-wook following the screening of the extended cut of ‘I Can’t Help It’ on September 4,” the festival announced.
This marks the first time the extended cut of *I Can’t Help It* has been screened in theaters.
Music directors Jo Young-wook (for *There’s Nothing I Can Do*), Dal Paran (for *The People Upstairs*), Kim Tae-sung (for *King of Kings*), Kim Jun-seok (for *High Five*), Kim Sa-wol (for *Ivan Lee, Maggie Cheung*), Jeong Yong-jin (for *The Square*), and Lee Su-bin (for *3670*) have advanced to the final round of this year’s “Music Insight” film music competition.
“Music Insight” is a film music competition category newly established in 2025 to highlight the artistic achievements of Korean film music and the creative worlds of film composers. Focusing on Korean feature films, entries are selected for the final round through preliminary voting by graduates of the Jecheon Film Music Academy (JIMFA), and the Grand Prize winner, chosen by an international jury, will receive a cash prize of 15 million won and a plaque.
Music director Jo Young-wook has created music that is remembered alongside the films themselves in numerous works, starting with *Log-In*—the first single OST to achieve million-seller status—and including *Oldboy*, *Sympathy for Lady Vengeance*, *The Handmaiden*, and *Decision to Leave*. This year, he advanced to the final round of “Music Insight” with director Park Chan-wook’s *I Can’t Help It*.
This screening will mark the theatrical premiere of the extended cut of *I Can’t Help It*, which is approximately 20 minutes longer than the original version. Following the screening on September 4 at 1:00 p.m., music director Jo Young-wook will join director Park Chan-wook for a Q&A session with the audience.
Music director Dal Paran of *The Neighbors Above* has built a unique musical universe that transcends genres and media, from *The Thieves*, *Assassination*, *The Outlaws*, and *Escape* to the series *Kingdom Season 2*, *Moving*, and *The Square*. For this project, he freely utilized various musical forms without confining the work to a specific style.
Music director Dal Paran explained his creative approach, saying, “Musically, what I prioritized was, ‘Let’s not take it too seriously. Let’s not be constrained by genre or format.’” He was nominated for the final round of this year’s “Music Insight” awards for *The People Next Door*.
Kim Jun-seok, the music director for *High Five*, is a veteran who has composed music for over 40 films, including *Speed Scandal*, *Sunny*, and *Swing Kids*; this project marks his fifth collaboration with director Kang Hyung-chul. Even before filming began, they created storyboards using music, shot scenes in sync with the music, and then fine-tuned each individual cut of the finished footage to match the beat.
Music director Kim Jun-seok explained the creative process that closely integrated the film’s rhythm with the music, stating, “Even after the music was completed, we continued the repetitive process of aligning every single cut to the beat.” He will participate in a Q&A session with actor Ahn Jae-hong following the screening at 10:00 a.m. on September 4.
Kim Tae-sung, the music director for *King of Kings*, has composed film scores spanning various genres, including *The Last Archer*, *The Admiral: Roaring Currents*, *1987*, *Sabah*, and *Exhumation*. For this film, he focused on the “relationship” between a father telling a story to his son rather than on religious themes. Music director Kim Tae-sung stated, “My goal was to create a new work that differs in tone from conventional Western approaches by capturing a musical interpretation of Jesus from an Eastern perspective.”
Director Jang Seong-ho, who served as producer, screenwriter, and director, will also be visiting Jecheon. Following the screening on September 5 at 4:30 p.m., he will participate in a Q&A session with the audience to discuss the film’s music and the collaborative process.
Music director Kim Sa-wol of *Ivan Lee, Zhang Man-ok* has been active as a singer-songwriter while continuing to compose film scores, and won the Music Award at the Wildflower Film Awards for *Silver Apricot*. In this film—a queer comedy centered on middle-aged women—she focused on using music to bring out the rhythm of the comedy. “The most important thing was that I wanted to make the audience laugh—no, that I had to make them laugh,” said Music Director Kim Sa-wol. “I worked with the hope that the music would serve as a seasoning that makes the actors’ performances stand out and appear even funnier and more impressive.”
Having collaborated on three short films and now on Director Lee Yu-jin’s first feature film, the two have unleashed the creative chemistry they’ve built over the years in this project. Music Director Kim Sa-wol will participate in a Q&A session with Director Lee Yu-jin and Editor Han Ji-yun following the screening on September 5 at 1:00 PM.
Music director Jeong Yong-jin of *The Square* focused on reflecting the “rhythm” inherent in the film’s various characters and scenes through the music. Regarding his collaboration with director Kim Bo-sol in particular, he said, “Throughout the entire production period, I strongly felt that she respected my artistic vision. That gave me tremendous strength in creating the music. It was as if I had been given wings.” Following the screening at 10:00 a.m. on September 5, she will join Director Kim Bo-sol for a Q&A session, where the two will personally share the collaborative process through which they crafted the film’s rhythm.
Music director Lee Soo-bin of *3670* aimed to create a sound distinct from her previous works and prepared new sound settings even before production began. For the club scenes, she collaborated with musicians, including Ginai-jik (an electronic musician), to enhance the music’s quality. “My top priority was creating a sound that stood out from my previous works,” Lee Soo-bin explained. Following their collaboration on the short film “Eunseo,” Director Park Jun-ho and actors Jo Yu-hyun and Kim Hyun-mok will participate in a Q&A session with the audience after the screening on September 4 at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the film’s music and production process.
The 22nd Jecheon International Music & Film Festival will be held for six days, from the 3rd to the 8th of next month, throughout Jecheon City. Film screenings will take place at the Jecheon Cultural Theater, Jecheon Video Media Center “Bom,” and Yeopyeoncho Salon, while performance programs will be held at the Summer Plaza of the Jecheon Arts Center, in front of Jecheon Station, and in front of the Eorimji Regional History Museum, among other locations. The Jecheon Music Film Market will take place at Sanchaek in the Haso Life and Culture Center and the Yeopyeoncho Lawn, among other locations.
The Jecheon International Music & Film Festival is the only music film festival in Asia. This year, it will showcase 189 films from 45 countries, presenting the festival’s broadest-ever program lineup.
