However, her career has recently hit a snag after details emerged about the pro-Japanese activities of her great-grandfather, Ahn Sang-ho. After Ha Young mentioned her great-grandfather on a variety show, it was revealed that he had been active in the Daejeong Friendship Society—a pro-Japanese organization during the Japanese colonial period—and had made remarks such as “I am the same as a Japanese person” in an interview with the Maeil Shinbo, sparking intense criticism.
