[Edaily Reporter Oh Hee-na ] A forum will be held to explore solutions for fundamentally improving the structure of the domestic service industry.
The Korea Federation of Service Industries and the office of National Assembly Member Yoon Jun-byeong will host a “Seminar on Strategies and Legislative Tasks for the Advancement of the Service Industry” on the 28th at 2:00 p.m. in Conference Room 11 (2nd floor) of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.

This seminar was organized to identify specific strategies and key legislative tasks to support the modernization of the service industry—which has significant job-creation potential and growth prospects—and to move away from the traditional growth model centered on core manufacturing industries that has driven the rapid growth of the domestic economy.
Park Jeong-soo, Director of the Institute for Industrial Policy and Strategy, will deliver the keynote presentation. Director Park will analyze the current state of Korea’s service industry and discuss the necessity of the Framework Act on the Development of the Service Industry, as well as its expected effects. Regarding the future direction of the service industry, he plans to emphasize that the competitiveness of services must expand beyond a simple sector-centric approach to a service ecosystem that integrates technology, data, and human resources.
In the subsequent panel discussion, Nam Seong-jun, Chair of the Policy Committee at the Korea Startup Forum (CEO of Dajayo); Han Jeong-mi, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Legislation and Legal Affairs; Shin Hyun-woong, Director of the Health and Medical Policy Research Division at the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs; and Choi Dong-il, Director of the Service Economy Division at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, will serve as panelists and engage in a lively discussion on the direction for enacting the Framework Act on the Development of the Service Industry and practical support measures.
The organizers plan to compile the key points and proposals discussed at this seminar and actively incorporate them into future legislative initiatives and the drafting of related bills.
Meanwhile, the “Framework Act on the Development of the Service Industry” was first submitted to the 18th National Assembly (submitted by the government) on December 18, 2011, and following the 19th National Assembly (submitted by the government and former Representative Kim Yong-ik), it was introduced in the 20th(former Reps. Lee Myung-soo and Kim Jeong-woo), the 21st National Assembly (former Reps. Lee Won-wook, Choo Kyung-ho, and Ryu Seong-geol), and the 22nd National Assembly (Reps. Song Eon-seok, Yoon Jun-byeong, Kim Young-hwan, and Choi Eun-seok).
