Im Hyun-sik will appear on MBN’s “Kim Ju-ha’s Day & Night,” airing on the 29th, to explain the circumstances surrounding the concerns about his health that arose due to his noticeably gaunt appearance. Im Hyun-sik explained that around last summer, he experienced stomach pain and other signs of ill health, so he visited a hospital with his daughters for tests, stating, “I was diagnosed with indigestion, gallbladder issues, poor circulation, and various other problems.” He eventually underwent a stent procedure.
“I underwent about six months of tests and treatment,” Im Hyun-sik said. “I lost as much as 7 to 8 kg during that time,” he added, noting, “It’s an age where a quick recovery is difficult.” He continued, “I’m feeling a bit better these days. My condition seems to be in good shape,” and revealed, “I’m told I should sleep for about 30 minutes to an hour during the day, so I take naps. I sleep as much as I want.”
Hwang Seok-jeong, who appeared alongside him, opened up about a family history she had struggled to share. Speaking about her mother, Hwang Seok-jeong explained, “Our family was so poor, but she wanted to pursue music, so she always came in first in her class.” She continued, “During her time at girls’ high school, she was selected as a scholarship student and even had the opportunity to study abroad in the U.S., but those plans ultimately fell through. She lived the rest of her life harboring a deep sense of regret because she couldn’t fulfill her dream.” She also said, “My father was a child soldier in the North Korean People’s Army. He came down to the South during the war, was captured, and was never able to return to his hometown.” Hwang Seok-jeong confessed that her mother’s anger, stemming from having to support the family, was directed at them, saying, “They say that from the age of three, I would have a panic attack whenever I saw my mom. I had a desire to be loved, but it wasn’t fulfilled. I didn’t exchange a single word with my mom until I was in my early 40s.”
Hwang Seok-jeong went on to say that when her mother, who had undergone back surgery, told her she needed money for hospital bills, she rushed to bring her home, and they talked constantly to resolve the emotions that had built up over many years. Curiosity is mounting around the story of Hwang Seok-jeong and her mother, who have now become as close as friends—so much so that her mother expressed surprise to Hwang Seok-jeong, saying, “A miracle has happened to us.”
