They are “A Trip to Gyeongju,” “The Last Day on Oak Street,” and “Ghost Band,” all of which opened on the 26th.

First, for audiences seeking a weighty story, there’s “Gyeongju Journey.” The film depicts the events that unfold when four women—a mother and her three daughters—who have waited eight years after losing their youngest daughter on a school trip, kidnap the perpetrator and head to Gyeongju. Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So-dam, and Lee Yeon star as the four women, while Byun Yo-han appears as the character who stands in opposition to them.
If you expect a simple revenge thriller, this film will take you in a completely different direction. As it follows the four women’s bizarre journey, the film shifts between comedy, drama, and thriller, eventually revealing the loss and grief underlying their quest for revenge as the story progresses. It’s also worth noting that this is the first commercial film by director Kim Mi-jo, who won the Grand Prize in the Korean Competition at the Jeonju International Film Festival for *The Seagull*.
If you’re looking for pure cinematic entertainment rather than complex themes, *The Last Day on Oak Street* is the film for you. It depicts the Flat family’s desperate struggle to survive a dinosaur attack after an entire ordinary residential neighborhood is suddenly transported back to the prehistoric era. The film stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor and was produced by J.J. Abrams.
The film’s main draw is, of course, the dinosaurs. Rather than setting the action on a remote island or in a jungle, it heightens the tension of the survival drama by unleashing dinosaurs in a familiar neighborhood lined with houses and bustling with traffic. For audiences who believe that “a dinosaur movie needs dinosaurs to really run wild,” this is the most intuitive choice.
For family audiences, *Ghost Band* awaits. This Korean animated film tells the story of Mita, a singer-songwriter who can see spirits, as she forms a band with four ghosts. As footage of their performances goes viral on social media, bringing them closer to their dream stage, they face a crisis due to interference from a major entertainment agency.
What sets it apart is its blend of fantasy with K-pop and band music. Notably, musician Yoon Sang composed the score, offering children distinctive characters and adventures while appealing to adults with the emotional depth of the music. Its relatively light 82-minute runtime and all-ages rating are also major pluses for families.
