[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] Song Kang and Lee Jun-young reunited after seven years, with a piano between them. The reunion of these two young people, who have led very different lives, intertwined with classical music to kick off the first episode of “Four Hands.”

The tvN Saturday-Sunday drama “Four Hands,” which premiered on the 29th, depicted how Kang Bi-o (played by Song Kang) and Choi Jeong-yo (played by Lee Jun-young)—who had competed against each other in a junior music competition as children—reunited at the Korea National High School of the Arts.
The series got off to a strong start. The first episode recorded a national average viewership rating of 3.4% with a peak of 4.6%, and a Seoul metropolitan area average of 3.5% with a peak of 4.7%. It ranked first among cable and general entertainment channels in its time slot and also took the top spot nationwide in the 20-49 demographic—tvN’s target audience.
Although the two were looking at the same piano, their circumstances were polar opposites. Kang Bi-o is a character who throws herself into the piano in hopes of gaining the recognition of her grandfather, Kang Seung-woon (played by Jung Jin-young), a world-renowned conductor. On the other hand, Choi Jeong-yo had his talent recognized as a child but, due to his family’s financial decline and his father’s debts, had to put music aside to focus on making a living.
It was the piano that reconnected their severed bond. After happening to see Kang Bi-o’s performance, Choi Jeong-yo gave an impromptu performance in the practice room; upon hearing this, Hong Jae-in (played by Jang Gyu-ri) asked him to become her accompanist. Yoon Seon-ju (played by Seo Jae-hee), the chairwoman of the Korea Arts High School, and pianist Do Hyun-soo (played by Kim Ju-heon) also recognized Choi Jeong-yo’s talent and encouraged him to transfer to the school.
Eventually, Choi Jeong-yo enrolled at the Korea National High School of the Arts and ended up in the same class as Kang Bi-o. Although Kang Bi-o didn’t recognize him at first, after hearing him play the piano, he recalled that Choi Jeong-yo was the one who had first ever made him settle for second place.
The first episode of “Four Hands” focused less on the competition between simply gifted pianists and more on the contrast between two people who shared the same talent but grew up in completely different environments. Kang Bi-o, who had staked everything on music, and Choi Jeong-yo, who had to give up music due to practical realities, stood at the same starting line once again, laying the foundation for a relationship that would unfold through competition, friendship, and personal growth.
Song Kang portrayed the sensitive inner world of Kang Bi-o, who harbors a desire for recognition, while Lee Jun-young portrayed Choi Jung-yo, who cannot hide his talent even amid difficult circumstances. Jang Gyu-ri added vitality to the drama in the role of Hong Jae-in, who serves as the link between the two.
The second episode of “Four Hands” will air on the 30th at 9:10 p.m.
