'Odyssey' Draws 1 Million Viewers Over the Weekend Alone… Cumulative Total Reaches 8.86 Million

[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] Director Christopher Nolan’s film *The Martian* topped the box office over the weekend, continuing its run as the top-grossing film.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 31st, *The Odyssey* drew 1,058,648 viewers over the three-day weekend from the 28th to the 30th, securing the No. 1 spot at the box office. Its cumulative audience count stands at 8,864,951. “The Odyssey” is enjoying box office success, surpassing the audience figures of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” (Spider-Man 4), which was released a week earlier.
“Spider-Man 4” took second place, drawing 250,447 viewers over the three-day weekend. Its cumulative total stands at 8,548,405 viewers.
Third place went to the Korean film “Gyeongju Journey,” starring Lee Jung-eun, Gong Hyo-jin, Park So-dam, and Lee Yeon. “Gyeongju Journey” drew 124,963 viewers over three days, bringing its cumulative total to 192,384.
“The Last Day on Oak Street” took fourth place, and “Love’s Hachuping: The Legend of the Whale Gem” took fifth, drawing 63,472 and 39,740 viewers, respectively.
“Odyssey” also dominates the advance ticket sales rankings. As of 8:09 a.m. on the 31st, “Odyssey” had sold 286,707 tickets, accounting for 65% of advance sales. “Odyssey” and “Spider-Man 4,” which had been the mainstay of foreign film box office success, ranked third in advance ticket sales.
With competition among Korean films expected to be fierce at the box office this fall, “The Assassin(s),” set to open on the 23rd of next month, ranked second in advance ticket sales; “The Secret,” opening on the 2nd, ranked fourth; and “The Intern,” opening on the 16th, ranked fifth. “Gyeongju Journey” took sixth place.
