[E-Daily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] A special screening will be held in conjunction with a memorial service for the late Director Heo Beom-wook, who passed away last July.

The Korean Film Archive announced on the 31st that it will hold a memorial service and special screening next month, stating, “We are organizing this event to remember and honor the late Director Heo Beom-wook, who passed away on July 28.”
The special screening will feature the premiere of the feature film *The Pig That Survived Foot-and-Mouth Disease* (2025), which became Director Heo’s final work. The short film *An Ordinary Meal* (2009) will also be screened.
The memorial service and special screening will take place at 4:00 p.m. on the 12th of next month at Cinematheque KOFA in Mapo-gu, Seoul. An exhibition introducing the late director’s works will also be held in the Cinematheque KOFA lobby.

The late director passed away on July 28, just one week before the release of his new film. He was 43 years old.
Indie Story, the distributor of *The Slaughtered Pig*, stated in an official announcement, “He passed away early this morning while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in a fire that occurred on July 23.” The release of *The Slaughtered Pig*, originally scheduled for August, has been postponed to October.
Director Heo, who made his debut in 2009 with the short animated film *An Ordinary Meal*, gained recognition in 2014 when his first feature-length animated film, *Pale Faces*, won the Grand Prize in the Feature Film category at the 30th Holland Animation Film Festival.
*The Slaughtered Pig* is a hard-boiled hellish fairy tale in which a “pig” striving to become human and a “human” striving to become an animal become entangled. Through the survival struggle of the pig “H” and the human “Jeong Seok” as they attempt to break free from the control of a massive “system,” the film explores the violence of modern society and the essence of humanity. It has been invited to 35 film festivals worldwide, including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival—the world’s largest animation festival—as well as the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival, emerging as this year’s most anticipated animated film.
