[Edaily Reporter Kim Se-yeon ] Director Christopher Nolan’s film “The Odyssey” surpassed 9 million cumulative viewers on the 31st, its 27th day in theaters. In IMAX theaters, it shattered the all-time attendance record, surpassing the record set by “Avatar: The Way of Water” (Avatar 2).

According to Yonhap News, Universal Pictures, the distributor of “The Odyssey,” announced that afternoon that the film’s cumulative audience count had surpassed 9 million. Among this year’s releases, this marks the fastest pace to reach this milestone, alongside Director Jang Hang-jun’s “The Man Who Lives with the King.”
As a result, “The Odyssey” has become the first foreign film to surpass 9 million viewers in approximately four years since “Avatar 2.”
“The Odyssey,” which opened on the 5th, has consistently held the No. 1 spot at the box office. After surpassing 1 million viewers on its fourth day and 2 million on its sixth day, it exceeded 8 million cumulative viewers on its 24th day.
On the 29th, it surpassed “Spider-Man: A Brand New Day” to become this year’s highest-grossing foreign film. The 10-million-viewer mark is now within reach.
“The Man Who Lives with the King” (approximately 16,917,000 viewers) is the only film this year to have reached 10 million viewers. If “The Odyssey” surpasses 10 million, it will become the second film this year to reach that milestone—following “The Man Who Lives with the King”—and the first foreign film to do so.
It has also set a new record for the highest number of viewers in IMAX theaters. According to the Integrated Movie Ticket Network and CGV, as of the previous day, approximately 941,000 viewers had watched “The Odyssey” in IMAX. Surpassing the previous record holder, “Avatar 2” (approximately 929,000 viewers), it has drawn the largest IMAX audience among films released in Korea.
As of the previous day, the cumulative audience for *Odyssey* stood at approximately 8,864,000, with IMAX viewers accounting for 10.4% of that total. This proportion is higher than that of other films that rank among the top in all-time IMAX attendance, including △*Avatar 2* (8.6%), △*Avengers: Endgame* (approximately 590,000 viewers, 4.2%), and △*Avatar: Fire and Ashes* (approximately 526,000 viewers, 7.8%).
