[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] SamsungElectroMechanics announced on the 1st that it has signed a 1 trillion won contract with a major global corporation to supply multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) for artificial intelligence (AI) servers.

The contract period is one year, from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2027. This contract is the largest among SamsungElectroMechanics’ long-term MLCC supply agreements. The contract value is 1.0722 trillion won, which amounts to 9.5% of SamsungElectroMechanics’ most recent revenue.

Often referred to as the “rice of the electronics industry,” MLCCs are components that act as “dams,” storing electricity and releasing it in measured amounts. They help semiconductors operate smoothly by stably supplying the necessary power to application processors (APs), graphics processing units (GPUs), and central processing units (CPUs). Since high-performance AI servers demand a higher level of power stability, demand for high-specification MLCCs is rapidly increasing.

SamsungElectroMechanics has already signed long-term supply agreements (LTAs) for MLCCs with about 10 global companies, including this latest client. The company is also in discussions with several other global firms regarding long-term supply agreements and plans to actively pursue these opportunities.

Since last May, SamsungElectroMechanics has signed a series of long-term supply agreements totaling approximately 2.25 trillion won for silicon capacitors and MLCCs for AI servers, thereby securing a stable demand base and accelerating its shift toward a high-value-added portfolio.
