[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyung-il ] Ascon, a company specializing in asphalt concrete ( SG CO., LTD.(255220)), announced on the 3rd that it is expanding the application of its eco-friendly, highly durable asphalt paving material, “EcoSteel Ascon,” after demonstrating its long-term durability.

EcoSteel Ascon was piloted on Gyeongwon-daero in Incheon in 2017. According to SG CO., LTD., the section paved with EcoSteel Ascon maintained its initial pavement condition for nine years without any repairs, whereas the standard asphalt section required at least two repair projects during that same period. No aggregate efflorescence occurred, confirming its performance in terms of road surface visibility and safety.
Differences were also evident in quantitative performance metrics. Analysis showed that the section paved with EcoSteel Asphalt exhibited a 59.5% improvement in plastic deformation, a 78.7% improvement in the crack rate, and a 56.5% improvement in longitudinal smoothness compared to conventional asphalt. The National Highway Pavement Condition Index (NHPCI) was recorded at 7.42. The repaving cycle was extended by up to 2.04 times compared to conventional asphalt concrete, and life-cycle costs (LCC) were confirmed to be reduced by 39.9%.
Based on this long-term service performance, SG CO., LTD. plans to expand the application of EcoSteel Asphalt primarily in ports, logistics facilities, industrial complexes, and large-scale urban development projects with heavy vehicle traffic.
SG CO., LTD. stated, “The diverse track record of public and private construction projects in Incheon, along with the long-term performance data, serves as a reference that demonstrates both the technical capabilities and economic viability of EcoSteel Asphalt,” adding, “Based on our accumulated construction experience and proven performance, we will expand its application to markets with high demand for highly durable pavement, including local governments, public institutions, industrial complexes, logistics facilities, and national industrial complexes.”
