[Edaily Reporter LEE DAWON ] SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260) The construction division of Samsung C&T is partnering with U.S. architectural firm SMDP to bid on the Mokdong 13th Complex redevelopment project in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, valued at approximately 2.4 trillion won. The company plans to secure its first “Raemian” complex in Mokdong and expand its business to secure future redevelopment contracts in the area. Aerial view of Mok-dong Complex 13. The Mok-dong 13 Complex redevelopment project involves rebuilding the existing 2,280 households located on a 178,919-square-meter site at 327 Sinjeong-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, into 3,852 households in buildings ranging from 4 stories underground to 49 stories above ground. The estimated construction cost is approximately 2.3763 trillion won.
SMDP, headquartered in Chicago, U.S., has primarily designed urban mixed-use developments and high-end residential complexes. In South Korea, the firm has participated in the development of projects such as Raemian One Bailey, Nine One Hannam, and Acro Seoul Forest.
SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION and SMDP are currently collaborating on the Shinbanpo 4th Phase redevelopment project, for which SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION secured the construction contract last year. They also jointly submitted a design proposal for the Shinbanpo 19th and 25th Phase redevelopment projects, for which SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION was recently selected as the general contractor.
The two companies plan to create a distinctive skyline by utilizing the maximum height allowed under the Mok-dong 13th Complex redevelopment plan—156 meters and 49 stories. They are also proposing a residential environment that considers natural light, views, and privacy, along with specialized facade designs and high-end community amenities.
In particular, the design concept aims to take advantage of the complex’s open southern exposure to allow residents to enjoy views of the surrounding natural landscape, including the Anyang Stream and Maebong Mountain.
SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION intends to use Mokdong Complex 13 as a foothold for “Mokdong’s first Raemian” and will also seek to secure contracts for nearby redevelopment projects. The company plans to expand its contract portfolio in Mokdong, similar to the Raemian complexes it has established in the Banpo area.
Lim Cheol-jin, Head of the Housing Sales Division at SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION, said, “As Mokdong Complex 13 is a strategic hub with high symbolic significance and far-reaching impact for the entire Mokdong redevelopment project, we will mobilize the company’s full capabilities to develop it into a landmark that represents the entire Mokdong area.”
