[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] The film “I Am Human,” selected as the opening film for the 51st Toronto International Film Festival, will be released on November 13. (Photo: The Apple TV+ original film “I, Human” is based on a true story and follows “Judy Human” (Ruth Madley)—known as the “mother of the disability rights movement”—as she fights discrimination to build a better world. The film tells the story of “Judy Heumann” (Ruth Madley), a young woman with a disability who took direct action in 1977 when the government ultimately failed to respond to the voices of people with disabilities. Determined not to remain silent in the face of discrimination, “Judy” and her like-minded colleagues occupied a government building, demonstrating their resolute determination not to back down until their rights were recognized. What began as a small act of defiance led to the spontaneous participation of hundreds of people, escalating into the longest federal building occupation in U.S. history. They held their ground, raising their voices to the world until the bureaucrat (Mark Ruffalo) standing in their way was forced to take action. Unexpectedly thrust into the center of the movement, they forged a path toward new change on a road that no one had ever traveled before. “I Am Human,” which chronicles the journey of the most unexpected people stepping forward to change the world, is set to leave a profound impact with its unflinching yet deeply human story. “I Am Human” marks the second collaboration between Apple Original Films and screenwriter-director Sean Hedder, following “CODA.” Directed by Sean Hedder, “CODA” not only won multiple Academy Awards but also made history as the first film with a predominantly Deaf cast to win the Best Picture award. Launched on November 1, 2019, Apple TV is the world’s first streaming service dedicated exclusively to original content. It is available in more than 100 countries worldwide via the Apple TV app for 6,500 won per month. It can be viewed on Apple devices as well as smart TVs and devices from various manufacturers.
