Peptron, Inc. announced that it has signed a construction contract with GC Biopharma Corp. to build its second plant within the Osong Bio Park in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province. With this contract, construction will begin in earnest, and the project is proceeding with the goal of completion by February 15, 2028. The Osong Plant No. 2 is a production facility being developed to support the global development and commercialization of long-acting pharmaceuticals utilizing SmartDepot™ technology. Peptron, Inc. plans to establish a large-scale production infrastructure capable of meeting commercial production demand not only for global clinical trials of its own pipeline but also for future expanded partnerships with global pharmaceutical companies. GC Biopharma Corp. EM, selected as the construction contractor, is a bioengineering firm with a track record of over 500 projects in the fields of GMP plants and biotech research facilities. It possesses world-class engineering capabilities across the entire process, from design and construction to validation (quality verification) and maintenance. Peptron, Inc. explained that it ultimately selected GC Biopharma Corp. EM—whose experience and expertise in building biopharmaceutical facilities have been proven—because the new plant will house GMP production facilities that meet global standards. Peptron, Inc.’s SmartDepo is a proprietary drug delivery platform that encapsulates drugs in biodegradable polymer (PLGA)-based microparticles to maintain long-term therapeutic effects within the body. With demand for long-acting formulations—which significantly improve patient convenience—exploding recently, particularly in the market for treatments for chronic diseases such as diabetes and obesity, in-house manufacturing and quality control capabilities have emerged as key competitive advantages. In line with this agreement, Peptron, Inc. announced that it has revised the investment period end date to February 15, 2028, to reflect the detailed schedule, and plans to proceed with construction without delay. A Peptron, Inc. official emphasized, “Through our collaboration with GC Biopharma Corp., we have accelerated the establishment of infrastructure to support global commercialization,” adding, “The second plant will serve as a key hub for translating SmartDepo’s R&D achievements into large-scale global commercialization.”
