PAKERS CO., Ltd. has completed the acquisition of a 58.53% stake in Elphoton and finalized the process of making it a subsidiary. Through this acquisition, PAKERS CO., Ltd. plans to secure Elphoton’s AUK and optical semiconductor technologies and expand into new businesses by integrating them with its existing LED operations.

Established in 2023, Elphoton is a company specializing in the design and manufacture of optoelectronic semiconductors, with UVC-LEDs, micro-LEDs, and optical sensors as its core business areas. The company launched its UVC-LED products this year and plans to sequentially introduce micro-LEDs, optical sensors, and other optoelectronic semiconductor-related products starting next year.

PAKERS CO., Ltd. intends to combine the manufacturing and business capabilities it has accumulated through its existing LED business with Elphoton’s technological expertise to establish a business structure that spans from product development to mass production and market supply. The company plans to expand its business scope to include UVC-LEDs, next-generation displays, optical sensors, and optical communications.

Elphoton holds 51 domestic and international patents and is expanding its product portfolio to include everything from optoelectronic devices to packaging, sensors, and application-specific products.

In the UVC-LED sector, the company possesses its proprietary W2C technology. W2C is a design technology that implements a moisture-proof structure within the UVC-LED chip itself, protecting the electrodes from moisture and corrosive ions while reducing the need for hermetic moisture-proof packaging processes.

In the MicroLED sector, the company is pursuing the convergence of RGB MicroLEDs, CMOS, MicroLED arrays, and optical technologies. Based on this, it plans to expand its business scope to include automotive electronics, high-end lighting, smart glasses for AR and VR, next-generation headlamps, and CPOs for AI data centers.

In the optical sensor sector, the company also possesses photodiode design and manufacturing technologies for fire prevention and arc detection, short-wavelength light detection technology (280 nm and below), and high-energy-band radiation detection technology based on AlGaN PIN diodes.

A PAKERS CO., Ltd. official stated, “Through the acquisition of a stake in Elphoton, we have secured a differentiated technology and product portfolio in the optoelectronics sector,” adding, “By combining the manufacturing and business capabilities accumulated in our existing LED business with Elphoton’s UVC-LED, Micro-LED, and optical sensor technologies, we will accelerate commercialization from product development through mass production to market supply.”

The official added, “We will expand our portfolio of high-value-added products, including UVC-LEDs, Micro-LEDs, and high-sensitivity optical sensors, and cultivate the AUK platform business as a medium- to long-term growth engine for the company.”

Meanwhile, PAKERS CO., Ltd. invested a total of 5 billion won—comprising an asset transfer and a cash investment—to acquire a stake in Elphoton.
