In program trading, there was a net buying of 133.2 billion won in arbitrage trades, but a net selling of 398.0 billion won in non-arbitrage trades, resulting in a total net selling of 264.8 billion won. At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is trading at 802.97, down 1.01 points (0.13%) from the previous trading day. After experiencing increased volatility—including a dip to 796.02 during the session—it is now fluctuating around the flat line. By investor type, retail investors were net buyers of 261 billion won, while foreign and institutional investors were net sellers of 167.2 billion won and 91 billion won, respectively. Program trading, centered on non-arbitrage transactions, showed a net selling position of 178.1 billion won, resulting in an overall net selling position of 178.4 billion won. Kang Jin-hyuk, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Securities, noted, “The New York Fed president recently interpreted the recent rise in interest rates as a result of strong economic conditions and the diminishing impact of tariffs, anticipating a moderation in inflation. Additionally, August’s ADP private employment figures came in below expectations, easing pressure on the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield.” He continued, “Although Broadcom presented conservative guidance, AI semiconductor revenue is projected to double annually through fiscal year 2028, which has improved investor sentiment toward AI,” adding, “Driven by the easing of interest rates and Broadcom’s earnings, foreign investors are buying futures, leading to a recovery centered on large-cap stocks such as SamsungElectronics and SK hynix.” He further added, “With the won continuing to strengthen—as evidenced by the won-dollar exchange rate entering the 1,350 won range—financial stocks are performing well, and major battery stock companies are also supporting the index,” noting, “Steel stocks are also rising in tandem after President Trump once again mentioned South Korea and Japan’s participation in the Alaska LNG project.” On the KOSPI market, financial stocks are standing out. KB Financial Group(105560)is trading at 179,300 won, up 10,200 won (6.03%), marking the highest gain among the top market-cap stocks, while ShinhanFinancialGroup Co.,Ltd.(055550)has also risen by 4,100 won (3.71%). Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(4.76%), DOOSAN ENERBILITY(034020)(5.35%), and HANWHA AEROSPACE(012450)(4.10%) are also showing strength. LG Energy Solution(373220), a leading secondary battery stock, rose 4.60% and drove the index higher, while HyundaiMotor(005380)(2.12%), KIA CORPORATION(000270)(2.81%), and SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION(028260)(2.82%) also extended their gains. Gains among major semiconductor stocks slowed somewhat compared to the morning session. SamsungElectronics(005930)is trading at 253,000 won, up 2,500 won (1.00%), while SK hynix(000660)is at 1.63 million won, up 17,000 won (1.05%). SKSQUARE(402340)(1.32%) also continued its upward trend. However, SamsungElectroMechanics(009150), which had shown strength earlier in the morning, turned lower, falling 29,000 won (-2.07%) to 1,371,000 won, and SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)is also showing weakness, down 1.93%. The KOSDAQ market is showing a clear divergence in performance among individual stocks. While EO Technics Co., Ltd.(039030)continued its strong performance with a sharp rise of 26,500 won (6.59%), Alteogen Inc.(196170), which had been rising in the morning, turned lower, falling by 2.68%. Although it rose by more than 5% at one point during the session, it is believed to have given up those gains amid short-selling pressure. Rainbow Robotics(277810)rose 2.18%, while ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)(1.22%), ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)(0.94%), and LEENO Industrial Inc(058470)(1.24%) maintained their upward momentum. Conversely, JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(-0.63%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(-1.64%), and SIMMTECH Co., Ltd.(222800)(-2.51%) showed weakness, and HLB INC.(028300)remained flat. Analyst Kang commented on the KOSDAQ, stating, “Despite the strength in secondary battery and robotics stocks, the index remains in a sideways range as biotech stocks, such as Alteogen Inc., have given back gains made from their recent highs.” He added, “However, some small- and medium-sized component, materials, and equipment stocks, such as EO Technics Co., Ltd., are holding up well, and net buying by retail investors continues.” Meanwhile, the won-dollar exchange rate stands at 1,357.4 won, down 2.90 won from the previous day. This is interpreted as being linked to the yen’s rebound amid continued dollar selling by exporters.
