[Edaily Reporter Lee So-Hyun ] KTCorporation(030200)supported real-time video monitoring at the Seoul World Fireworks Festival by implementing 5G Standalone (SA) network slicing technology. The company explained that it provided a stable communication environment by separating the communication network required for safety management at the event—which attracts large crowds—from general visitor traffic.

KTCorporation announced on the 6th that it applied 5G Standalone (SA)-based network slicing technology at the “Seoul World Fireworks Festival 2026,” held on the 5th, to provide the communication environment necessary for safety management even in densely crowded conditions.

KTCorporation participated as the official technology sponsor of this event. The company operated 25 wireless CCTV cameras equipped with network slicing technology in the Yeouido and Ichon Hangang Park areas and transmitted live footage to the integrated command center in real time. It also provided 10 emergency communication devices to safety personnel to support crowd management and emergency response.

At event sites where large crowds gather simultaneously, data delays or communication failures are likely to occur due to a surge in traffic. In particular, wireless surveillance equipment that must transmit video in real time to the on-site command center can be significantly affected by network congestion.

Network slicing is a technology that divides a single physical communication network into virtual networks designated for specific purposes. Similar to designating a bus-only lane on a congested road, this method secures a dedicated communication network for safety management that is separated from general visitor traffic.

Through this technology, KTCorporation enabled the comprehensive situation room to monitor crowd density and on-site conditions in key areas of the event venue via real-time video without the need to build separate dedicated lines. Emergency communication devices issued to safety personnel also maintained stable command and communication channels through the sliced network.

Expanding Beyond Voice Communications to Video Monitoring

Network slicing is a core technology implemented in a 5G Standalone (SA) environment where both the core network and base stations are built exclusively for 5G. KTCorporation is currently the only one among South Korea’s three mobile carriers to operate a commercial 5G SA network, and it is leveraging this to verify the technical stability and practical applicability of network slicing in real-world scenarios.

KTCorporation previously verified the stability of voice and data communications among event staff at the Gwanghwamun World Cup street cheering event last June. At this year’s Seoul World Fireworks Festival, the company expanded the scope of application to include high-capacity real-time video transmission.

Based on the results of this demonstration, KTCorporation plans to expand the application of network slicing to areas requiring stable communication infrastructure, such as large-scale events, industrial sites, and public safety. The company is also exploring ways to provide customized network slicing services for both businesses and general customers.
