[Edaily Reporter Nam Soyeon ] As poll results showed that President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating for his handling of state affairs has hit a new low since taking office, Kim Eo-jun expressed concern, saying, “If this trend continues, there’s a high likelihood we’ll see a rating in the ‘2’ range within a month.” On the 7th, during his show “Kim Eo-jun’s ‘Humility Is Hard’ News Factory,” Mr. Kim analyzed the poll results with Lee Taek-soo, CEO of Realmeter, and pointed out, “The important thing is that this downward trend has already been continuing for over two months.” (Photo: Screenshot from YouTube’s “Kim Eo-jun’s ‘Humility Is Hard’ News Factory”)According to the results released today from a Realmeter survey—commissioned by the Energy Economy Daily and conducted from the 31st of last month to the 4th of this month among 2,510 people nationwide aged 18 and older—the approval rating for President Lee’s handling of state affairs stood at 37.4%, down 1.5 percentage points from last week. This marks the eighth consecutive week of decline and once again sets a new low since his inauguration. Conversely, the disapproval rating stood at 59.5%, widening the gap with the approval rating to 22.1 percentage points. Regarding this, CEO Lee Taek-soo analyzed, “Although there were positive developments last week—such as the integrated operation of the KTX and SRT, record-high exports in August, and the second-highest current account surplus on record in July—various controversies surrounding the ministerial nominees for the second-term cabinet reshuffle, the backlash over the reversal of the real estate tax reform plan, and various statements and controversies within progressive circles regarding the President’s handling of judicial matters had a negative impact.” Mr. Kim also interpreted the factors behind President Lee’s declining approval ratings, stating, “Even when there is positive news, it isn’t reaching his base.” He argued, “Because the public remains indifferent even when exposed to such news, positive stories aren’t acting as positive factors—only negative news is having an effect,” adding, “The approval rating continues to fall.” Mr. Kim assessed, “The administration is generally lacking momentum in governing,” adding, “We have reached a stage where the President has no choice but to step forward personally and continue speaking in his own words.” He further emphasized, “This is not a situation that can be resolved by the Blue House spokesperson or the President’s social media accounts.” Meanwhile, the Realmeter opinion poll cited in the broadcast was conducted via an automated mobile phone survey; the margin of error is ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 4.2%.
