According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network for movie ticket sales on the 9th, “The Martian” drew 76,685 viewers on the 8th, securing the No. 1 spot at the box office. Its cumulative audience total stands at 10,192,029.
In second place was “Obsession,” which drew 26,371 viewers on the same day. Its cumulative total stands at 239,531 viewers.
Third place went to “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” (Spider-Man 4). It drew 13,287 viewers that day, bringing its cumulative total to 8,819,175.
In fourth place is “Bi-gwang,” starring Ha Ji-won and Ryu Seung-ryong, which drew 6,559 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 82,428. “Sing Again” took fifth place, attracting 5,490 viewers that day.
“Odyssey” continues to dominate the advance ticket sales as well. As of 8:14 a.m. on the 9th, “Odyssey” had sold 212,794 tickets, leading the second-place film, “The Assassin(s)” (52,879 tickets), by approximately 160,000 tickets.
In third place for advance ticket sales is “The Intern,” which opens on the 16th, with 50,582 tickets sold. Following that, “Obsession” (26,409 tickets) and “Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub” (22,850 tickets) ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
With highly anticipated Korean films such as *The Intern* (opening on the 16th), *Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub*, *Assassins*, and *Possible Love* set to be released in quick succession, all eyes are on whether *Odyssey* can maintain its box office momentum amid the onslaught of new competitors.
