Previously, during a live broadcast last May, MC Mong claimed that an illegal gambling ring involving celebrities existed and singled out Kim Min-jong as one of the participants. Kim Min-jong immediately denied the allegations and filed a criminal complaint against MC Mong at the Jongno Police Station in Seoul on the 1st of this month. Subsequently, on the 5th—approximately four months after raising the allegations—MC Mong met with Kim Min-jong in person to apologize and also admitted his wrongdoing during a live broadcast. Kim Min-jong accepted this apology and decided to end the legal proceedings. In a separate statement released that day, Kim Min-jong revealed that he had agonized considerably before deciding to withdraw the complaint. He explained that while some people around him expressed concern, asking, “Why are you withdrawing the complaint so easily?” he felt that “it’s already in the past and water under the bridge,” adding, “I made this decision after deep reflection—for my own sake, so I can take the time to become a better person going forward.” In particular, he described the past 110 days of controversy as “a time I will never forget for the rest of my life.” Kim Min-jong said, “Although I lost a lot because of it, I believe it was also a time when I gained a lot,” adding, “I am deeply grateful to and sorry for the many people who believed in and supported me throughout this process.” He continued, “Going forward, I will reflect deeply and live my life with dedication so that I can become a better Min-jong,” adding, “I am so sorry, and I am so grateful.”
