[E-Daily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] KTCorporation (CEO Park Yun-young) is partnering with major domestic hospitals—including Seoul Asan Medical Center, Seoul National University Hospital, and Yonsei University Health System—in quick succession to secure a leading position in the medical artificial intelligence transformation (AX) market. The strategy goes beyond simply introducing AI to hospitals; it involves validating the technology in actual clinical settings before expanding its use across the entire healthcare sector.

KTCorporation(030200)KTCorporation announced on the 10th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Seoul Asan Medical Center at the KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to build an “AI Hospital” and develop AI medical services applicable to clinical settings. The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Bong-kyun, Executive Vice President and Head of KTCorporation’s Enterprise Division, and Park Seung-il, President of Seoul Asan Medical Center, among others.

This collaboration aims to foster Seoul Asan Hospital as a “leading hub for future medical AI” where medical AI technologies are actually used and validated.

When patients visit the hospital, AI will be integrated throughout the entire treatment process—for example, by assisting with the interpretation of medical images and automatically collecting and analyzing health records scattered across various systems. Based on this data, medical staff will be able to make faster and more accurate clinical decisions, while patients can expect shorter wait times and improved convenience.

KTCorporation and Asan Medical Center in Seoul plan to identify and implement AX models—including a next-generation hospital information system—that can be utilized in clinical settings. AI services with confirmed clinical efficacy will be rolled out to clinical settings in phases.

They will also pursue solutions that use AI to address specific challenges in the healthcare setting, such as supporting clinical decision-making, streamlining healthcare professionals’ workflows, and improving the patient experience.

KTCorporation will support the development of service models and technical validation based on its ICT infrastructure—including AI, cloud, and data—and its AX platform capabilities. Seoul Asan Hospital will identify needs in clinical, medical, and research settings and provide clinical consultation and validity assessments during the AI service development and validation process.

The two parties plan to form a working group starting at the end of this month to advance specific tasks and discuss strategies for the clinical application and widespread adoption of medical AI.

KTCorporation’s medical AX collaboration extends beyond Seoul Asan Medical Center. Earlier in August, KTCorporation partnered with Seoul National University Hospital to develop a standard model for a medical AX platform. The collaboration aims to apply AI models across all aspects of healthcare—including diagnosis, nursing, research, and hospital operations—and to jointly validate AI innovation projects in the public healthcare sector.

KT is also expanding the scope of its collaboration with Yonsei University Health System to research medical data standardization and the application of AI-based medical services.

The roles of each hospital are also being differentiated. At Asan Medical Center, the focus is on using AI services in actual clinical settings and verifying their effectiveness, while the collaboration with Seoul National University Hospital centers on exploring standard models for Medical AX and their potential for expansion in the public healthcare sector. This is interpreted as a strategy to build an ecosystem spanning the development, validation, and widespread adoption of medical AI, using major hospitals as hubs.

Park Seung-il, President of Asan Medical Center in Seoul, stated, “The future competitiveness of healthcare depends on how safely and effectively data and AI are integrated into actual clinical settings,” adding, “Through our collaboration with KTCorporation, we will lead medical innovation by identifying and applying AI-based healthcare services that can be validated in clinical settings, thereby enhancing patient safety and treatment outcomes.”

Kim Bong-kyun, Executive Vice President and Head of KTCorporation’s Enterprise Division, said, “KTCorporation plans to pool core technologies and capabilities with Seoul Asan Hospital to build an AI hospital and jointly develop AI healthcare services applicable to clinical settings.” He added, “Based on the capabilities of our AX platform, which encompasses AI, cloud, and data, we will accelerate AX innovation in the healthcare sector and lead the future of medical AI.”
