‘Odyssey’ to Surpass ‘The Roundup 3’ Today… On the Verge of Entering the Top 30 All-Time Box Office
190,000 People Mobilized on the 12th
Cumulative Attendance of 10.61 Million; Also Ranks First in Ticket Pre-sales
Box Office Success Continues into Its Sixth Week
[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] Director Christopher Nolan’s new film, “The Martian,” has maintained its top spot at the box office for the sixth consecutive week and is on the verge of entering the top 30 all-time domestic box office rankings. Even after surpassing the 10 million viewer mark, the film continues to draw steady audiences and is breaking long-term box office records. Its cumulative audience count has risen to 10,617,613. Considering that the film has entered its sixth week since release, this is an exceptional display of sustained box office success. Generally, after an initial surge in attendance, the number of viewers declines rapidly as the weeks go by; however, even after surpassing the 10-million mark, “The Odyssey” continues to draw nearly 200,000 viewers per day on weekends. Ticket pre-sales remain strong as well. As of this morning, pre-sales stood at 181,292 tickets, maintaining the top spot among all films. Even after surpassing the 10-million-viewer mark, the film continues to lead in pre-sales, making it highly likely that it will remain near the top of the box office for the foreseeable future. Attention is now turning to the all-time box office rankings. “Odyssey” is just over 60,000 viewers shy of the final attendance figure for “The Roundup 3,” which stood at approximately 10.68 million. Given the current growth in viewership, it is projected to surpass “The Roundup 3” sometime today (the 13th) and climb to 30th place on the all-time domestic box office chart. Breaking the 10-million mark is not the end but rather the starting point of a new race for records. With “Odyssey” maintaining the No. 1 spot in both box office revenue and advance ticket sales in its sixth week of release, attention is now focused on how high it will ultimately climb in the rankings.
