[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] On the 14th, the independent research firm Value Finder assessed that, as power supply bottlenecks intensify due to the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, fuel cells are emerging as a viable alternative for S-Fuelcell Co., Ltd.(288620). In addition, the company stated that it is pursuing the expansion of its business scope into integrated building energy solutions.

Founded in 2014 and listed on the KOSDAQ market in 2018, S-Prism is a first-generation South Korean specialist in hydrogen fuel cells. The company holds numerous achievements, including the development of a 1kW-class residential fuel cell stack. The company changed its name from S-FuelCell to its current name last March. It has built a diverse portfolio covering building, power generation, and transportation applications, and possesses the capability to provide integrated design solutions ranging from fuel cell stacks to power conversion systems. As of the first half of this year, its revenue breakdown consisted of 67.5% from building-use fuel cells, 16.3% from power generation-use fuel cells, 12.7% from power plant operations, and 3.5% from services.
According to Value Finder, U.S. data center construction spending in July of this year reached approximately $75 billion, setting a new all-time high. Consequently, with long lead times for power infrastructure construction making short-term supply difficult, fuel cells—which feature short deployment times and enable modular expansion and on-site power generation—are emerging as a practical alternative. In fact, Bloom Energy, a leading global fuel cell company, recorded second-quarter revenue of $1.07 billion (up 166% year-over-year) and raised its earnings guidance, underscoring this favorable market trend.
Furthermore, the company is moving away from its traditional fuel cell manufacturing-centric business model and is transitioning into a provider of “integrated building energy solutions” that combine PEMFCs (polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells), ESS, BIPV (building-integrated photovoltaics), and heat pumps. This is a distributed energy solution that utilizes both electricity generated within buildings and the baseload power from fuel cells, recycles waste heat from the power generation process for heating, cooling, and hot water, and controls electricity consumption through ESS and heat pumps.
The company plans to launch a pilot product within one year of commencement through collaboration with specialized firms and to pursue standard commercialization; in the medium to long term, it intends to expand its business scope to include clean hydrogen-based solutions.
Jihoo, a researcher at ValueFinder, analyzed, “As power bottlenecks in AI data centers intensify, fuel cells—which feature short deployment times and enable on-site power generation—are emerging as a practical power alternative.” He added, “As S-Prism is expanding its business scope with integrated building energy solutions that combine PEMFCs, ESS, BIPV, and heat pumps, it will be worth watching whether the company benefits from increased investment in AI data centers.”
