[Edaily Reporter kyoungeun kim ] In early trading on the 15th, SamsungElectronics(005930)and SK hynix(000660)are rebounding, partially recouping the previous day’s sharp losses.
According to MP Doctor, as of 9:36 a.m. today, SamsungElectronics is trading at 250,000 won, up 1,000 won (0.40%) from the previous day, while SK hynix is trading at 1,714,000 won, up 17,000 won (1.00%).

Despite the sharp decline in semiconductor stocks on the New York Stock Exchange overnight, domestic semiconductor stocks are seeing a flow of bargain-hunting buying following yesterday’s sharp drop.
As expectations for a rate hike at the September Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting strengthened and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note surpassed 5% during the session, the three major U.S. stock indices all closed lower. In particular, semiconductor stocks such as Micron (-5.2%) and Nvidia (-3.4%) plummeted, causing the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index to drop 5.9%. However, a sense of relief is evident in the domestic stock market, as U.S. stocks closed having recovered a significant portion of their early-session losses. In particular, SamsungElectronics and SK hynix are showing signs of a rebound as bargain-hunting buying flows in, following sharp declines of 4.24% and 7.12%, respectively, the previous day.
The so-called “AI speed control theory” proposed by OpenAI and Anthropic is cited as the reason behind the widening losses the previous day. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has argued that the pace of development for AI frontier models needs to be intentionally moderated. Some market observers interpreted this as a signal of a slowing AI investment cycle, leading to a contraction in investor sentiment toward semiconductor stocks.
However, as some view these concerns as an exaggerated signal for domestic semiconductor stocks, this is interpreted as stimulating a “buy-on-dip” mentality.
Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, advised, “There has been no significant deterioration in the earnings outlook for the KOSPI, including semiconductor stocks.” She added, “Considering that the consensus estimate for operating profit over the 12 months starting in September has been revised upward by 3.2%, while the KOSPI’s return in September fell by 2.0%, there is little practical benefit to selling on the dip even if volatility increases due to the AI pace-adjustment issue.”
Hwang Soo-wook, an analyst at Meritz Securities, also explained, “This needs to be understood from the ‘profit’ perspective of OpenAI and Anthropic—the AI frontier duopoly that proposed the AI slowdown,” adding, “It is a strategic move to maximize profits by shifting resources from AI training to AI inference ahead of their IPOs.”
