(Photo courtesy of Mindmark) Distributor Mindmark and international distributor Fine Cut announced, “Director Park Hoon-jeong’s new film ‘Sad Tropics’ won the top prize in the International Competition section (Nouveau Genre Grand Prize) at the 32nd Étranger Film Festival, which took place from September 1 to 12.” *Sad Tropics* tells the story of a group of children belonging to the “Sad Tropics” killer organization—raised by “Sabu,” the undisputed ruler of the tropical rainforest—who, following an incident that shakes the very foundation of their existence, begin to suspect one another and vow bloody revenge. Previously, *Sad Tropics* proved its artistic merit by first being invited to the “Orbita” section of the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and then winning the “Silver Raven Award” in the International Competition section at the 44th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. More recently, it was invited to the 40th Fantasy Filmfest, Germany’s largest genre film festival, which tours seven major German cities. This was followed by an invitation to the 32nd Étrange Film Festival, one of France’s leading genre film festivals. Held annually in Paris every September, the Étrange Film Festival has previously invited major Korean hits such as *Exhumation*, *Concrete Utopia*, and *The Spy Gone North*. Marc Troonen, International Programmer for the Étrange Film Festival, stated, “Director Park Hoon-jung has returned to action and delivered a masterful performance.” He added, “‘Sad Tropics’ is an action thriller that builds to an intense crescendo, much like an opera, racing unrelentingly toward a furious climax as if there were no tomorrow.” He continued, “Stylized action, a raw, unpolished sensibility, and deep melancholy collide violently, evoking the golden age of Hong Kong cinema in the 1980s and 1990s. It’s high-speed action that doesn’t let you blink for a moment and never slows down.” *Sad Tropics* is scheduled for a domestic theatrical release following final post-production work.
