[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] Genitics ( Zinitix Co.,Ltd.(303030)), a fabless system semiconductor company, announced on the 17th that it will conduct the tape-out (the process of completing the design and moving to the foundry production stage) for a touch display driver integrated circuit (TDDI) for wearable organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs)—which it is jointly developing with a Chinese semiconductor company—on the 28th.

Zinitix Co.,Ltd. had previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a Chinese semiconductor company to jointly develop a TDDI for wearable OLEDs and has been proceeding with product development. With the tape-out, the company plans to conclude the design phase and move on to follow-up procedures for commercialization, such as producing engineering samples and securing customers.

A TDDI is a product that integrates touch sensor and display driver functions into a single semiconductor chip. Because it reduces the number of components and the mounting space required, it is used in wearable OLED devices—such as smartwatches—that require compact and slim designs.

This joint development project combines Zinitix Co.,Ltd.’s touch sensor and control technologies with the partner company’s expertise in developing display driver chips (DDIs). The two companies aim to begin producing engineering samples and undergoing certification procedures this December, secure customer models in the first quarter of next year, and commence mass production in the third quarter.

Zinitix Co.,Ltd. plans to use this project as an opportunity to expand its product lineup from its existing touch integrated circuit (IC)-focused offerings to include TDDI. Alongside in-house development, the company intends to expand its customer base in the wearable market by pursuing collaborations with global display and semiconductor companies. Following its partnership with a Chinese partner, Zinitix Co.,Ltd. is also exploring the possibility of additional joint development and business cooperation with U.S. companies.

Zinitix Co.,Ltd. official stated, “With the tape-out schedule confirmed for September 28, the development of TDDI for wearable OLEDs has entered the full-scale commercialization phase,” adding, “We plan to proceed smoothly with sample production and securing clients to advance commercialization with the goal of mass production in 2027.”
