[Edaily Starin Gim Ga Yeong Reporter] It has been revealed that Comedian A, who caused a disturbance at a bar, had been impersonating a professionally trained comedian.
On the 18th, the Korea Broadcasting Comedians Association clarified that Comedian A—who was recently sued for damaging property and failing to pay a bar tab at a Seoul bar—is not a comedian selected through a public recruitment process.
The Korea Broadcast Comedians Association explained that it verified the facts following the incident and confirmed that Mr. A had no history of being selected through either open or special recruitment by any broadcaster. Mr. A is known to be an aspiring comedian who performed at small theaters in Daehangno, rather than a comedian selected through an open recruitment process.
Secretary-General Kim Song-hee stated, “We thoroughly cross-checked the association’s membership roster with the recruitment lists of each broadcaster, but this individual is not listed on any broadcaster’s open or special recruitment lists, including SBS’s,” adding “The dedication and reputation of countless broadcast comedians—who work tirelessly in difficult conditions to bring laughter to the public—are being severely tarnished by unverified, one-sided impersonations and reports,” she noted. She went on to emphasize, “We earnestly request corrections and cautious reporting to prevent the spread of reports that distort the facts.”
Previously, on the 2nd, JTBC’s “Case Squad” reported that a man who identified himself as a “terrestrial broadcast network open-recruitment comedian” was under police investigation after getting into a dispute with foreign customers at a bar near Hongdae Station in Mapo-gu, Seoul, where he damaged property—including beer glasses—and failed to pay the bill.
