[E-Daily Shin Ha-yeon Reporter] MDS Tech ( MDS Tech(086960)), a company specializing in AI and embedded solutions, is participating in the AI-in-Glass technology development project led by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) to develop wearable artificial intelligence (AI) computing devices.

MDS Tech announced on the 21st that it participated in the “AI-InGlass Forum” held on the 15th at the Royal Hotel in Myeongdong, Seoul. The forum was organized by ETRI and sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT, with approximately 150 attendees from some 70 organizations, including companies, universities, research institutes, and associations involved in AI glasses.

Representatives from across the AI glasses industry—including manufacturers of finished products, as well as companies in the display, semiconductor, components, telecommunications, and services sectors—participated to discuss the current state of technology development, market trends, and directions for industry collaboration.

AI glasses are next-generation digital devices that recognize the surrounding environment through cameras and sensors and provide users with necessary information. To implement actual services, integration of various technologies—including AI agents, spatial intelligence, displays, communication networks, and the cloud—is required.

The “AI-in-Glass Technology Development for Personal AI Agents” project, in which MDS Tech is participating, is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and led by ETRI. The goal is to integrate AI glasses, wearable AI computing devices, and cloud-based AI service platforms into a single system.

Within the consortium, MDS Tech is responsible for developing a wearable AI computing terminal that processes data collected by the AI glasses on-site and connects it to the cloud. The company plans to design a core electronic module that combines NVIDIA-based AI computing capabilities with Qualcomm-based communication functions, and to validate aspects such as power management, thermal management, battery architecture, communication performance, and device stability.

In the software domain, the company will implement the device’s operating system (OS), middleware, and 5G communication functions. This will support data integration between the AI glasses, the computing terminal, and the cloud, while also driving AI model optimization and feature enhancements.

MDS Tech plans to expand the technology acquired through this R&D effort into a foundation that can be applied to various industrial sectors, including national defense.

An MDS Tech official stated, “For AI glasses to become a practical service, technology that reliably connects DEVICES, edge AI, communications, and the cloud is crucial,” adding, “Based on our accumulated experience in embedded systems and AI platforms, MDS Tech will reliably implement wearable AI computing devices.”

The spokesperson added, “We will work closely with participating organizations to ensure that the results of this R&D effort serve as a technological foundation for applications in the defense sector and various other industrial fields.”
