[Edaily Reporter LEE YUN-JEONG ] The “Specialty Product Pickup Center (Global Digital K-Food Hub),” where visitors can conveniently pick up high-quality specialty products produced in the pristine natural environment of Jindo County right in the heart of Seoul, has newly opened on the second basement level of Seoul Station on the Airport Railroad. The opening of this center was initiated to expand sales channels for “Jindo It’s,” Jindo County’s flagship food brand, and to provide a unique and convenient shopping experience for foreign tourists visiting Korea and Airport Railroad passengers.
Until now, despite their excellent quality, Jindo’s specialty products were difficult for foreign tourists to access due to limited availability; however, with the opening of this pickup center, distribution gaps are expected to be resolved, and global sales channels for local foods are projected to expand significantly.
This project was carried out as a collaborative model between the local government and specialized companies. Smart Altteul Market Co., Ltd. is responsible for product supply and planning, ensuring a stable supply of high-quality Jindo specialties, while Foodie Co., Ltd., a specialist in F&B mobile systems, handles on-site operations and the mobile order and exchange management system to provide fast and convenient service. The global travel platform Klook is participating as a promotional and online sales channel for foreign tourists, expanding reach to overseas users and maximizing global marketing synergy.
In this way, the three pillars—product planning, on-site operations, and global distribution—are organically integrated to function as a digital distribution hub that connects the regional brand directly with overseas consumers, going beyond the role of a simple retail outlet.
Using the pickup center is simple. From the moment they begin planning their trip to Korea until just before returning home, tourists can pre-order a variety of local specialties—such as “Jindo It’s” soy-marinated crab and fermented octopus—through the Klook channel. The status of their order and pickup readiness can be checked in real time via Klook notifications. Travelers can simply pick up their items at the Airport Railroad Seoul Station Pickup Center—conveniently located along their route to the airport—by verifying the barcode in their reservation email or mobile text message.
In particular, travelers can purchase iconic Korean local foods at Seoul Station without worrying about weight or storage, ensuring a satisfying experience right up until the very end of their trip. Another major advantage is that the center is located along the route to Incheon International Airport via the Airport Railroad, allowing travelers to pick up their specialty products seamlessly without the need for additional travel or extra time.
Based on the results of the pickup center’s operation, Jindo County plans to continuously improve convenience for international visitors by gradually expanding the range of products offered and enhancing foreign-language guidance services and multilingual payment systems. The county is also considering ways to develop Seoul Station on the Airport Railroad into a collaborative platform for local foods by partnering with other local governments and regional specialty product brands.
An official from Jindo County stated, “We are pleased to be able to directly showcase ‘Jindo It’s’—which embodies Jindo’s pristine nature and local stories—to global customers through the hub of Seoul Station on the Airport Railroad,” adding, “We will continue to collaborate to promote the excellence of local food and provide a convenient shopping experience for domestic and international tourists.”
