[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] Singer Shim Soo-bong recently apologized for making inappropriate remarks about junior singer Kim Da-hyun during a performance at a local festival. She specifically stated that she had personally conveyed her apology to Kim Da-hyun and her family.

On the 21st, Shim Su-bong released a statement through her agency, saying, “On the 20th, on the stage of a regional trot festival watched by many people, I literally made a slip of the tongue,” and bowed her head, adding, “I have no excuse—even if I had ten mouths—for making remarks that defied common sense at an inappropriate moment during a festival where everyone should have been laughing and enjoying themselves.”
She explained that she had been feeling stressed due to her usual concerns about the music industry and the noise at the venue on the day of the event, but she did not use this as an excuse for her remarks.
Shim Su-bong said, “I didn’t know exactly who the singer performing before me was, and my remarks were absolutely not intended to embarrass anyone in particular,” but admitted, “As an elder, it was clearly wrong of me to say something that hurt a junior singer’s feelings.”
Shim Su-bong revealed that she had personally apologized to Kim Da-hyun and her family. “I heard from her father that Ms. Kim Da-hyun sang ‘A Million Roses’ while playing the piano at the concert,” Shim Su-bong said, adding, “Thinking about how much she must have practiced brought tears to my eyes.”
She also apologized to Kim Da-hyun’s fans, event organizers, and the audience members who attended the event. “I offer my deepest regrets and apologies to Ms. Kim Da-hyun, her fan club, and all the organizers who worked hard for the event,” she said, adding, “I am also sincerely sorry to the many attendees who came to watch the performance.”
Shim Su-bong and Kim Da-hyun took the stage at the “Jinan Plateau Trot Festival,” a program of the “2026 Jinan Ginseng Festival” held on the 20th at Maesan in Jinan County, North Jeolla Province.
Earlier, Kim Da-hyun took the stage before Shim Su-bong and performed songs such as “Praise Whale,” “I’m the Lottery,” “Good Shot!,” and “Black Swan.” Shim Su-bong, who took the stage afterward, sparked controversy by commenting on the previous performance—without directly referring to Kim Da-hyun—saying, “That young lady doesn’t seem to know what singing is or what life is,” and “Singing isn’t something you should take so lightly.”
