Actor Koo Kyo-hwan shared his thoughts on a sequel during an interview for the movie *The Resurrected Man: The Red* (*The Resurrected Man*) held on the 21st at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
“The Resurrected Man” is a film that follows “Seok-hwan” (Koo Kyo-hwan), a job seeker whose only “qualification” is baseless confidence, as he discovers he possesses the ability to come back to life 72 hours after death and becomes the target of a mysterious pursuit.
Koo Kyo-hwan showcased impactful action sequences reminiscent of superhero films. He explained his reason for choosing “The Resurrected Man,” saying, “I found the story entertaining to read. It was fun working with Director Baek and all the actors—Kang Ki-young, Shin Seung-ho, and Kim Si-ah.”
Koo Kyo-hwan remarked, “‘The Resurrected Man’ is a film where everyone forms an ensemble within a single narrative,” adding, “While I’m curious about Red, I’m also curious about Black’s (played by Shin Seung-ho) story and the stories of all the characters—I hope all of these stories get told.”
When asked about his hopes for a sequel, he said, “Rather than *The Resurrected Man 2*, I think it would be great if the stories of the other characters were turned into a series,” adding, “If there are scenes where Seok-hwan is needed, I’d gladly participate and serve as a supporting character.”
He then drew attention by revealing his ambition, saying, “I’d love it if they let me direct one of those projects.” He continued, “If I were to do it, I’d like to work with Ye-rin. I want to create a story about Ye-rin developing an AI app.”
Throughout the interview, he repeatedly expressed his desire to direct. Koo Kyo-hwan said, “I want to try my hand at directing. Now, I want to tell my own story and bring to life what I want to show,” and drew laughter by adding, “Please contact me.”

A character who grows stronger with each resurrection. Regarding the theme of resurrection, he said, “Personally, I think the ability to be resurrected is a curse. While it’s an interesting subject for a movie, I imagine it would be lonely.”
He continued, “Getting used to death is a really scary thing, isn’t it? Rather than depicting a familiar kind of horror, I think my main goal was to make the film comfortable for the audience to watch,” adding, “I also deliberately added a bit more humor. I always tell myself not to lose my sense of humor, and I think that mindset is reflected in the film as well.”
This marks his reunion with Shin Seung-ho following the Netflix series *D.P.*. He remarked, “I thought to myself, ‘Positive energy really shines through even when we’re not together.’ He’s cute, considerate, and sometimes feels like a reliable older brother. He’s a great person.”
Shin Seung-ho had previously boasted on the YouTube channel “Ttentten”’s “Pinggye-go” that they had grown even closer through this project. Koo Kyoo-hwan joked, “One day, I wanted to eat barbecue with him, so I worked up the courage to ask him out.”
He continued, “I was deeply moved while filming ‘D.P.’ too. Even though every set was unfamiliar, creating those scenes was very comforting. I also really like the scenes I made with Shin Seung-ho,” adding, “I hope ‘The Resurrected Man’ turns out that way too.”
He also mentioned that he and actor Kang Ki-young, who plays Young-ha and with whom he showcased great chemistry as best friends in the show, are “real-life best friends” as well. Koo Kyohwan said, “Actor Ki-young is my pride and joy.” He continued, “When I see the excitement from filming spilling over onto the screen, I can’t help but let it show. We’re actually best friends in real life, and the fact that we were able to incorporate that relationship into a genre film is a cherished memory for the two of us.”

Koo Kyo-hwan described *The Resurrected Man* as “a dopamine-fueled, fast-paced, fun, and entertaining movie.” Since the film is set to be released after the Chuseok holiday, he quipped, “Can’t we be included in the Chuseok lineup too?” drawing laughter.
Koo Kyo-hwan added, “Christmas is on December 25, but I think of the whole month as Christmas. I’m going to think of the entire month of September as Chuseok.”
*The Resurrected Man* opens on the 30th.
