According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 26th, as of 7 a.m. that day, “The Assassin(s)” had recorded a cumulative audience of 1,047,760. This pace matches that of director Christopher Nolan’s new film “The Martian,” which has been enjoying a long-running box office success.
Since its release on the 23rd, *The Assassin(s)* has topped the overall box office for three consecutive days and, on its fourth day in theaters, surpassed 1 million cumulative viewers, further fueling the box office fever during the Chuseok holiday.
“The Assassin(s)” tells the story of the investigation into the suspicions and masterminds behind the First Lady assassination attempt on August 15, 1974, an event that shocked South Korea. Director Hur Jin-ho, known for films such as “Christmas in August,” “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring,” “Princess Deokhye,” and “Cheonmun: Asking the Sky,” helmed the project. The intense ensemble performances by the lead actors—Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Min-ho—are driving high audience satisfaction.
“The Assassin(s)” was named Runner-Up for the International Audience Award at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival.
