[Edaily Reporter KIM YOON JI ] The White House announced on the 25th (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed current issues—including North Korea, Russia, and Iran—during the U.S.-China summit and established a dialogue channel on artificial intelligence (AI).
In a fact sheet released that day, the White House stated, “President Trump and President Xi discussed ways to promote peace and prosperity to enhance the confidence of businesses and consumers around the world,” adding, “The two countries agreed to build a constructive relationship that fosters strategic stability based on respect, fairness, and reciprocity.”
According to the fact sheet, the two countries will support each other as hosts of the Group of 20 (G20) Summit and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting, respectively, and the two leaders plan to attend each other’s summits. Furthermore, the two leaders agreed that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons and that no country or entity may impose tolls on international waterways. President Trump also proposed trilateral arms control talks involving the U.S., China, and Russia.

Furthermore, the two leaders agreed to use the term “Super Intelligence (SI)” instead of “AI” when describing applicable new technologies. The two countries agreed to establish a U.S.-China dialogue channel on super intelligence to exchange views on its associated risks and benefits. They also agreed to establish a bilateral communication channel in the event of incidents related to super intelligence. They did not elaborate on the definition or scope of super intelligence.
In addition, the U.S.-China Trade Commission and the U.S.-China Investment Commission—key intergovernmental cooperation bodies launched during the May summit in Beijing—began full-scale operations. The Trade Commission agreed to recommend reciprocal tariff concessions totaling $30 billion each for non-sensitive goods. U.S. export items include agricultural products, seafood, logs and lumber, cosmetics, and medical devices. U.S. import items consist of consumer goods such as small appliances, toys, holiday decorations, and child car seats. A working group to address barriers to agricultural market access was also launched.
China plans to import at least 10 million metric tons of U.S. coal each year in 2027 and 2028.
The Investment Commission established by the two countries will discuss potential investment opportunities and investment-related barriers, providing a systematic channel for both sides to resolve commercially significant investment issues. The White House stated that the two sides are continuing to cooperate to address U.S. concerns regarding shortages of rare earths and other critical minerals and to ensure that supply levels return to adequate levels. President Trump also urged President Xi to increase production of refined petroleum products to stabilize global oil supplies.
