TikTok announced on the 28th, “We deleted Ko Young-wook’s TikTok account this morning.”
Previously, on the 27th, Ko Young-wook had shared his account, announcing that he had created a TikTok account. Netizens who saw this expressed concern that Ko Young-wook—who has a history of sex crimes against minors—had opened a TikTok account, a platform frequently used by minors.
TikTok explained, “In accordance with our Community Guidelines, if it is confirmed that an account owner has committed a sex crime against a minor, we permanently suspend not only that account but also any other accounts held by that user,” adding, “This action was also based on our Community Guidelines.”
Ko Young-wook, who debuted as a member of the band “Lula” in 1994, was arrested and indicted on charges including sexual assault and indecent assault of minors. In December 2013, he was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, five years of public disclosure and notification of his personal information, and three years of wearing an electronic monitoring device (ankle monitor). Ko Young-wook served his 2 years and 6 months in the Nambu Detention Center, Anyang Prison, and Seoul Nambu Prison, and was released in 2015 while wearing an electronic ankle monitor.
After his release, Ko Young-wook opened an Instagram account in November 2020 and posted numerous updates, but the account was suspended following a report. He opened a YouTube channel in 2024, but that account was also suspended. Currently, only his X account remains active.
