The specific details and timing of this new investment will be determined based on future business conditions and the progress of the project.
Spanning an area equivalent to 222 soccer fields (1.59 million square meters), SamsungElectronics’ Hwaseong Campus is recognized as a hub for advanced process (EUV) and foundry mass production, as well as global equipment research and development (R&D).
Previously, in 2024, SamsungElectronics invested 1.5 trillion won to build a High-Performance Computing (HPC) Center on the Hwaseong Campus. The center, with a total floor area of 53,700 square meters and comprising one basement level and 11 above-ground floors, houses 116,000 servers across nine server rooms. Through the HPC, the Hwaseong Campus has also gained ultra-high-performance computing capabilities for semiconductor design, R&D, artificial intelligence (AI), and simulation.
It is also reported that the company is pushing forward with plans to convert an older memory production line at the Hwaseong Campus into a packaging line. This is why attention is focused on this new investment plan, valued at 1.7 trillion won, which will be carried out within Hwaseong City.
Hwaseong City plans not only to strengthen cooperation among relevant departments to respond swiftly to various issues arising from SamsungElectronics’ investments and business activities but also to actively review and support necessary measures within the scope of relevant laws and administrative procedures.
Furthermore, the city envisions creating a “virtuous cycle of mutual growth between the company and the city,” in which SamsungElectronics’ continued investment and growth are supported, while the company, through its investment and business activities, injects new vitality into the local economy.
A SamsungElectronics official stated, “Hwaseong City is a key business hub that has grown alongside SamsungElectronics,” adding, “We will continue to work closely with Hwaseong Special City to lay the foundation for sustained growth and strive to develop together with the local community.”
Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun responded, “SamsungElectronics is a key partner that has helped shape Hwaseong’s industrial development and future high-tech industrial ecosystem,” adding, “This agreement goes beyond a simple corporate support agreement; it will serve as a new starting point that unites corporate growth with the city’s future.” He continued, “We will listen even more closely to the voices of businesses on the ground so that companies that invest and grow in Hwaseong will choose to return here,” and added, “We will spare no effort in providing the necessary administrative support and cooperation to ensure that corporate growth leads to high-quality jobs and the growth of the local economy.”
