[Pyeongtaek = E-Daily Reporter Hwang Young-min ] A state-of-the-art automated logistics center operated by SamsungElectronics(005930)will be built in the Pocheong (BIX) District of the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone in Pyeongtaek.

On the 29th, Kim Neung-sik, Commissioner of the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone, and Choi Won-yong, Mayor of Pyeongtaek, signed the “SamsungElectronics CDC Logistics Center Investment Agreement” with Park Soon-cheol, Executive Vice President (CFO) of SamsungElectronics. CDC stands for “Central Distribution Center,” referring to a central logistics hub that comprehensively manages all aspects of logistics, including product intake, outbound shipments, storage, sorting, and delivery.

Under the agreement, SamsungElectronics will invest a total of 500 billion won in approximately 110,000 square meters of land designated for logistics facilities in the Pocheong (BIX) District of Pyeongtaek to build a state-of-the-art automated logistics hub specializing in home appliances. The facility is expected to serve as a key hub for distributing not only SamsungElectronics’ home appliances produced domestically but also products manufactured overseas and imported through the Port of Pyeongtaek to the rest of the country.

Construction of the center began in March of last year and is currently underway, with completion targeted for June of next year. Once the center is fully operational, it is expected to create approximately 300 jobs. The Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone Authority and Pyeongtaek City plan to actively support the project by facilitating relevant permits and administrative procedures to ensure its smooth progress, and to operate a dedicated communication channel to promptly resolve any challenges faced by the company.

Since beginning initial investment consultations with SamsungElectronics in the second half of 2022, the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone Authority has been listening to the company’s challenges on-site—from land acquisition and traffic impact assessments to building permits and the start of construction—and has worked with relevant agencies to devise solutions. SamsungElectronics purchased the project site in 2023, completed administrative procedures such as obtaining a building permit in 2024, and began construction in March 2025.

SamsungElectronics has committed to constructing facilities designed to reduce carbon emissions and operating an eco-friendly logistics center, while also contributing to the revitalization of the local economy by prioritizing the hiring of local workers.

Commissioner Kim Neung-sik stated, “This agreement is highly significant in that SamsungElectronics, a leading domestic company, has recognized the competitiveness of the port, industrial, and logistics infrastructure in the Pocheong District of Pyeongtaek.” He added, “We will spare no effort in providing administrative support alongside Pyeongtaek City to ensure the logistics center is completed as planned, leading to an increase in cargo volume at the Port of Pyeongtaek and the creation of high-quality jobs.”

Pyeongtaek Mayor Choi Won-yong remarked, “SamsungElectronics’ large-scale investment will further enhance Pyeongtaek City’s industrial and logistics competitiveness and serve as an opportunity to breathe new life into the local economy,” adding, “We will strive to provide swift and systematic administrative support to ensure the project’s successful implementation.”

The Pyeongtaek Posung (BIX) District is a key industrial and logistics hub within the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone, an industrial complex developed near the Port of Pyeongtaek. Spanning a total area of 2.04 million square meters, it features a mixed-use development combining industrial, logistics, and residential functions, and is strategically located to leverage the regional transportation network, including the Port of Pyeongtaek, the West Coast Expressway, and the Pyeongtaek–Siheung Expressway. It was developed with the goal of strengthening the Pyeongtaek Port hinterland industrial complex by attracting manufacturing companies—including those in the automotive, machinery, and electronics sectors—as well as logistics and distribution firms, while also building an industrial ecosystem that integrates high-tech industries with logistics.

In particular, the Poseung District is noted for its strength in linking import-export logistics with manufacturing, thanks to its proximity to the Port of Pyeongtaek. With the establishment of large-scale logistics facilities—including the SamsungElectronics CDC Logistics Center—logistics functions centered on the port are expected to be further strengthened, and the project is anticipated to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of local industries through collaboration between manufacturing and logistics companies.
