According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated computer network on the 30th, “Assassins” drew 61,496 viewers on the 29th alone, claiming the No. 1 spot at the box office. Its cumulative audience count stands at 1,695,104.
“The Assassin(s)” had consistently led the box office since its release on the 23rd but ceded the top spot to “Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub” (Tazza 4) on the 28th. Although its box office momentum appeared to falter amid criticism over historical distortion, it returned to the top spot in just one day.
“Tazza 4” took second place. It drew 56,134 viewers that day, bringing its cumulative total to 958,058. “Tazza 4” is also attracting audiences during the Chuseok holiday period and is engaged in a fierce battle for the top spot with “The Assassin(s).”
In third place, “Odyssey” added 22,709 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 11,837,357. Even nearly two months after its release, it continues to draw audiences steadily and maintain its long-running box office success.
In fourth place is “Possible Love,” which drew 14,176 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 144,529. “The Intern” ranked fifth with 14,020 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 782,611.
The top spot in advance ticket sales went to the Japanese animated film “Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island,” which opens today (the 30th). It claimed the top spot with 224,150 tickets sold in advance. Second place went to “Assassins,” which recorded 68,832 tickets. Although it ranks second in overall advance ticket sales, it holds the highest position among Korean films.
Third place went to “Odyssey” (53,430 tickets), fourth to “The Resurrected Man: The Red,” starring Koo Kyo-hwan (53,152 tickets), and fifth to “Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub” (50,389 tickets).
