According to DaewooEngineering&Construction on the 1st, CEO Lee visited Turkmenistan after being invited to the 35th anniversary celebration of the country’s independence. During the meeting, he stated, “Since signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the modernization of the Karakum Canal, DaewooEngineering&Construction has been conducting further discussions and consultations on specific cooperation plans based on this agreement,” adding, “We will do our utmost to further develop our long-term partnership with Turkmenistan and contribute to expanding cooperation between the two countries in the economic, construction, and infrastructure sectors.”

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov responded, “I welcome CEO Lee’s visit to Turkmenistan,” adding, “This visit will serve as an opportunity to breathe new life into the development of bilateral relations and into the projects DaewooEngineering&Construction is currently pursuing in Turkmenistan.”

In addition, during his five-day, four-night visit to Turkmenistan, Mr. Lee met with Baymarat Annamammedov, Deputy Prime Minister for Construction, Energy, and Production, as well as Lee Won-jae, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan, to discuss ways to expand cooperation.

Turkmenistan is a new market in Central Asia that Chairman Jeong Won-ju has pioneered through his repeated visits over the years. DaewooEngineering&Construction plans to develop Turkmenistan into a regional hub market, leveraging the country’s abundant resources and economic growth. Building on this meeting with the President, the company intends to further solidify its cooperative relationship with Turkmenistan and actively seek additional business opportunities in the infrastructure sector, including the Karakum Canal modernization project.

Previously, on the 15th of last month, at the Korea-Turkmenistan Business Forum, the company signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation for the Karakum Canal Modernization Project” with the Turkmenistan Water Resources Committee. Following its initial entry into the Turkmenistan market last May with a contract for a mineral fertilizer plant, the company is actively exploring additional contracts in the fields of local industrial facilities and infrastructure construction.

DaewooEngineering&Construction is also actively engaging in cultural exchanges with Turkmenistan, including hosting “Turkmenistan Culture Day.” The company explains that through these efforts, it is not only deepening cultural understanding between the two countries but also faithfully fulfilling its role as a private-sector diplomatic envoy by expanding the foundation for cooperation.
