[Edaily Reporter Shin Ha-yeon ] The KOSPI continued its upward trend into the afternoon, rising by over 1% and closing in on the 6,900 mark. After opening lower early in the session, the market staged a successful rebound, with major semiconductor stocks—including SamsungElectronics(005930)and SK hynix(000660) —showing strength and driving the index higher. The KOSDAQ surged by over 3%, regaining the 880 level, buoyed by simultaneous buying from foreign and institutional investors.

According to MP Doctor on the 1st, as of 1:27 p.m. that day, the KOSPI was trading at 6,915.84, up 77.80 points (1.14%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 6,814.49 and fell as low as 6,765.06 during the session, but subsequently turned higher, reaching a high of 6,931.67.

In terms of supply and demand, institutions are net buyers of 85.7 billion won on the stock market. In contrast, foreign investors and retail investors are net sellers of 626.7 billion won and 686.0 billion won, respectively. Program trading, combining arbitrage and non-arbitrage transactions, shows a net selling position of 173.4 billion won.

Among the top market-cap stocks, SamsungElectronics(005930)is trading at 273,000 won, up 1.68% from the previous trading day. SK hynix(000660)is trading at 1.81 million won, up 1.91%. In addition, SamsungElectronics(1P)(005935)(3.74%), SamsungElectroMechanics(009150)(2.45%), LG Energy Solution(373220)(0.84%), HyundaiMotor(005380)(0.72%), and SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS(207940)(2.73%) are showing strength. On the other hand, SKSQUARE(402340)(-0.53%), KB Financial Group(105560)(-1.30%), and Samsung Life Insurance(032830)(-0.35%) are trading lower.

By sector, medical and precision instruments are up by around 3%, while pharmaceuticals, electrical and electronics, manufacturing, securities, metals, textiles and apparel, IT services, machinery and equipment, transportation equipment and parts, electricity and gas, entertainment and culture, and general services are all rising. In contrast, chemicals, insurance, finance, non-metals, food, beverages, and tobacco, construction, real estate, retail, and paper and wood are down.

Last night, Micron reported earnings and guidance that exceeded market expectations, which appears to be having a positive effect on domestic semiconductor investor sentiment. Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, stated, “As the prolonged period of high interest rates has now become the market’s base scenario, the pace of rate increases has become more important than the interest rate level itself,” adding, “We can regain earnings visibility through the third-quarter earnings season for leading stocks such as semiconductors and hyperscalers.”

At the same time, the KOSDAQ Index is trading at 882.60, up 26.69 points (3.12%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 853.96 today, dipped to 851.92 during the session, but then rose sharply to reach a high of 882.94.

In the KOSDAQ market, foreign and institutional investors are net buyers of 174.6 billion won and 237.6 billion won, respectively. Retail investors are net sellers of 385.2 billion won. Program trading shows a net buying position of 267.5 billion won.

Among the top market-cap stocks, Alteogen Inc.(196170)(3.93%), ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)(4.09%), ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)(4.12%), JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(0.65%), Rainbow Robotics(277810)(2.87%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(5.93%), and EO Technics Co., Ltd.(039030)(4.81%) are all rising.
