[Edaily Starin YUN GI BACK Reporter] A power outage at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall—home to the country’s largest IMAX theater—caused disruptions to some screenings. Power has now been restored, and the theater is operating normally. CGV has begun issuing refunds and replacement tickets to affected moviegoers.

According to CGV on the 1st, a power outage occurred in some theaters at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall around 10 p.m. the previous day. The sudden loss of power caused movie screenings to be interrupted in some theaters, inconveniencing moviegoers at the venue.
A CGV spokesperson stated, “A power outage occurred yesterday in some screening rooms at the Yongsan location, but screenings are now back to normal,” adding, “We have issued refunds and provided replacement tickets to customers who experienced inconvenience.”
The power outage is believed to have been caused by an issue with the power supply to the I-Park Mall building. The ripple effects of the outage extended to the movie theater, disrupting operations in some screening rooms.
Eyewitness accounts of the situation at the time also flooded online platforms. Posts shared images of the lights inside the theater going out and disruptions in the use of electronic displays, ticket machines, and concession stand equipment. In particular, moviegoers who were about to start a film reportedly faced difficulties confirming whether their screening would proceed or using ticket and concession services due to the sudden power outage.
This is not the first time screenings at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall have been disrupted by a power outage. In November 2023, a malfunction in the building’s power supply system caused a blackout, halting projector operations in approximately 10 of the 20 screening rooms.
