[Edaily Starin Choi Hee-jae Reporter] The universe of the drama "Rookie" is expanding to the big screen. "Rookie," which gained popularity for its realistic portrayal of military life, is coming to theaters this winter as the movie "Rookie: The Movie—A Ghost Lives in the Military Hospital."

Distributor KT Studio Genie announced on the 1st that the film “Rookie: The Movie—A Ghost Lives in the Military Hospital” (“Rookie: The Movie”) will be released this winter. Along with this announcement, they unveiled a launch poster signaling the “Rookie” universe’s debut on the big screen.
“Rookie: The Movie” tells the story of a group of rookies admitted to a military hospital, dreaming of a relaxing break, who are forced to uncover its secrets after confronting terrifying rumors about the facility they once believed to be a paradise. It expands the universe of the popular drama “Rookie”—which gained a following for its hyper-realistic episodes set in the familiar daily life of the military and its colorful characters—onto the big screen.
“Rookie: The Movie” is set to carry on the charm of the “Rookie” drama series while offering a fresh kind of entertainment centered around new settings and events.
The launch poster, released on the 1st, captivates viewers with the sight of the "Rookies" standing against the backdrop of the Republic of Korea Army Yangcheon Hospital amid an ominous atmosphere, while also piquing curiosity about their new story—one that unfolds at the military hospital after they’ve left the Shinwa Unit.
The sight of “Park Min-seok” (Kim Min-ho) turning back with a meaningful expression as the recruits gaze at the military hospital foreshadows their unpredictable life there. Additionally, the tagline “A blockbuster-level horror comedy is on the way” builds anticipation for the film’s new genre twists, alongside the signature lighthearted humor of “Rookie.”
In particular, new cast members add a breath of fresh air. Actor Ryu Kyung-soo takes on the role of “Yoo Jae-hoon,” a mysterious soldier admitted to the military hospital. Additionally, TWICE member Yoo Jung-yeon makes her screen debut as nursing officer “Yoo Jung-yeon.”
“Rookie” is a gritty, realistic drama about the chaos that ensues when a “privileged” recruit arrives at a place where all kinds of characters have gathered. After Season 1, released in 2022, garnered widespread acclaim, the series has been produced through Season 4 and has established itself as KT Studio Genie’s flagship intellectual property (IP).
