A Single “Hello” Is Enough to Make Banks Hesitate… LG Corp. and Woori Bank Thwart Phishing Attempts During Calls
Iksio Provides Financial Security Against Voice Phishing
Monitoring of Suspicious Transactions in Currency Linked to Suspected Phishing Immediately Activated
[Edaily Reporter Yun Junghoon ] The moment a call with a voice phishing scammer begins, the bank’s Fraud Detection System (FDS) activates in real time. This establishes a sophisticated defense mechanism that combines telecommunications and financial data to block fraud starting at the “call stage”—before any financial transaction takes place.
LG Uplus(032640)announced on the 6th that it is partnering with Woori Bank to launch the “Voice Phishing Financial Safety Service,” based on the AI calling app “ixi-O.”

Until now, the financial sector’s response to voice phishing has been limited by its reliance on “financial transaction information,” such as account transfers or withdrawals. This made it difficult to identify risk signals in the pre-transaction stage, such as whether a user was on the phone with a voice phishing scammer or had been infected by a malicious app.
The core feature of this service is that the telecom provider transmits real-time risk detection data—collected during calls—to the financial institution. When ixi-O uses AI to detect a call suspected of being a voice phishing attempt or a voice that has been tampered with, that information is immediately forwarded to Woori Bank. Based on the received data, Woori Bank immediately raises the FDS monitoring level for the relevant customer and, if any suspicious transactions are detected, takes preemptive protective measures such as additional identity verification or withdrawal restrictions.
Since signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) last August to prevent voice phishing fraud, the two companies have operated a working-level task force and completed technical validation and pilot operations. This marks the first time that a telecom provider’s real-time threat intelligence has been directly integrated into a financial institution’s customer protection system.
LGU+ plans to establish a multi-layered safety net for families in the future, such as by immediately sending notifications to registered guardians when risks are detected during a call. The company also intends to continuously expand the number of participating financial institutions.
Yoon Choi, Head of the AI Business Group at LGU+ (Senior Managing Director), stated, “Since voice phishing is a crime that begins during a phone call and leads to financial loss, the telecommunications and financial sectors must respond together to enhance the effectiveness of prevention.” He added, “Moving forward, we will continue to expand our customer protection system—centered on ‘Exio’—that bridges the telecommunications and financial sectors, and we will do our utmost to safeguard our customers’ valuable assets from financial crime.”
