[Edaily Reporter Kim Min-jung ] Actress Jeon Won-ju (87) revealed that she has gifted about half of her assets in advance to prevent inheritance disputes among her children after her death.
MBC’s “PD Notebook” will address family conflicts surrounding inheritance issues in the episode “2026 Inheritance War: Time for the Family Left Behind,” scheduled to air on the 6th. She added that she is managing the remaining assets herself. She also explained that she needs to prepare for situations where she might not receive proper care if she becomes ill in her old age.
Jeon Won-ju is known to have inherited a house and commercial properties from her mother, who was a businesswoman. Combined with her earnings from acting and investment returns, her total assets are reported to be close to 5 billion won.
Last year, on a TV show, she confided, “I worry that my two sons will fight over my estate after I’m gone,” and sought advice from a lawyer regarding inheritance matters.
At the time, the lawyer advised her to prepare a will in advance.
However, according to the broadcast, fewer than 1% of all deceased individuals actually have their wills notarized.
Legal disputes over inheritance are also on the rise. In 2025, a total of 3,612 claims for the division of inherited assets were filed in courts nationwide. This figure is approximately five times higher than it was about a decade ago.
The issue of so-called “dementia money”—where declining cognitive function due to aging makes it difficult for individuals to properly manage their assets—is also growing.
The value of related assets is projected to rise from 154 trillion won in 2023 to 488 trillion won by 2050.
