SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS announced that it held a seminar on the topic of “Integrated CDMO Services and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)-Based Optimization of Antibody-Drug Conjugate (ADC) Conjugation Processes” at “BIO JAPAN 2026,” which opened on the 7th at the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Center in Japan.
BIO JAPAN is Asia’s largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology exhibition, hosted by the Japan Bioindustry Association. The event runs for three days through the 9th, and more than 22,000 attendees are expected to visit the venue. SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS has participated for four consecutive years since 2023 and is operating a standalone booth again this year to conduct business development and contract negotiations with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
At this event, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS presented its strategy for targeting the APAC market by introducing end-to-end services capable of responding to changing customer demands, as well as ADC production process technologies.
Speaking first, [Name] stated, “As the development of new modalities such as ADCs and peptides is gaining momentum in Japan, demand for CDMO services is also surging,” and “We will respond to rapidly changing customer demands not only by diversifying our service portfolio through the acquisition of capabilities across various modalities but also by providing end-to-end services that encompass contract research (CRO), contract development (CDO), and contract manufacturing (CMO),” he added.
In fact, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS has been expanding its production portfolio beyond antibody drugs—its traditional focus—to include messenger RNA (mRNA) and ADCs. The company is currently constructing a multi-modality production facility at its Songdo Bio Campus No. 3. Since last August, the company has also been pursuing the acquisition of Polypeptide Group, a global peptide CDMO. Once the acquisition is finalized, the company is expected to gain additional capabilities in the development and production of peptide active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) as well as overseas production hubs.
Furthermore, the company is strengthening its local sales presence in Japan. Since opening a sales office in Tokyo last year, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS has been increasing its engagement with local customers. The company explained that it is currently working on projects with numerous clients, including the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in Japan. Its participation in this event is interpreted as part of a strategy to link its local sales organization with its production and development services to secure new orders.
Following Executive Vice President Choi, Choi Yeon-jeong, a professional at the New Modality Group, showcased SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS’ high-quality manufacturing capabilities by introducing process technologies that maintain consistent quality even as ADC production scales up, using CFD simulations.
ADCs are therapeutics that combine an antibody—which targets cancer cells—with a payload, a drug that induces cancer cell death. The mixing process, which ensures the antibody and drug can conjugate and dissociate as intended, can affect the product’s homogeneity and quality. In particular, ensuring that the mixing environment remains uniform is critical when scaling up from small-scale processes to commercial production.
“We used CFD technology—which analyzes fluid flow, heat transfer, and mass transfer through simulation—to predict potential changes in the mixing environment,” explained Mr. Choi. “We confirmed that we can maintain consistent ADC production quality even as we scale up production.”
Meanwhile, following Bio Japan 2026, SAMSUNG BIOLOGICS is participating in a series of domestic and international biotech events this month, including “CPHI Milan 2026” in Europe, “World ADC San Diego” in the U.S., and “Bio Plus Co., Ltd. 2026 (BIX 2026)” in Korea, to expand its engagement with global clients and actively promote its CDMO competitiveness.
