SamsungElectronics announced on the 8th that its preliminary consolidated operating profit for the third quarter of this year totaled 107.4 trillion won. This represents a 782.5% surge compared to the same period last year (12.17 trillion won). It also marks a 20.0% increase compared to the previous quarter, the second quarter of this year (89.49 trillion won).
Operating profit surpassed the previous quarterly record set in the second quarter of this year in just one quarter. Notably, it became the first South Korean company to exceed 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit.
The results also slightly exceeded market expectations. According to financial information provider FnGuide Inc., the consensus estimate (average forecast by securities firms) for SamsungElectronics’ third-quarter operating profit was 106.6401 trillion won. The preliminary operating profit is approximately 760 billion won higher than the market forecast.
Third-quarter revenue reached 195 trillion won, up 126.6% year-over-year (86.06 trillion won) and 13.7% quarter-over-quarter (171.5 trillion won). Revenue also broke the all-time record set in the previous quarter in just one quarter.
This performance is attributed to rising demand for high-value-added memory products—such as High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and server DRAM—driven by expanded investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, as well as an upward trend in memory prices. SamsungElectronics did not disclose segment-specific results in this preliminary earnings report.
SamsungElectronics plans to disclose the performance of each business division—including the semiconductor division—as well as its future business outlook through the announcement of its final earnings and a conference call scheduled for the end of this month.
